Rawhide help!!!!

I just got my puppy a couple of weeks ago, and found her what seemed to be harmless little rawhide sticks to chew on. She's been enjoying them so much and I'd never heard a bad thing about them (new to owning a puppy!) Well, she got about half of it all soggy when she swallowed the stick whole. She didn't seem phased by it, in fact she was sniffing around looking for it after she swallowed it. Looking around online I see very mixed reviews... some say no biggy.. others act like its fatal. Do I need to bring her to the vet?? I feel so horrible now looking on Doodlekisses and finding them in the Danger group. As much research as I did, I was bound to make a mistake somewhere. :( Feeling very down and worried. Please help!!!

I have not had any negative experiences with rawhide (w/ past pups), and haven't given rawhide to Casper yet...I think maybe you should call the vet & tell them exactly what she did & how big the piece was that was swallowed. Please keep us posted & good luck - I am sure she will be just fine!

I think one of those little sticks will probably pass through but I would just keep a close eye on her. My dogs would sometimes gulp big pieces of rawhide and later vomit. I no longer give them rawhide.

Thank you for your encouragement ladies. Everything passed through just fine! :) Vet said just to keep an eye on her, but that MOST dogs don't have a problem unless they're real tiny. So glad she was okay. Man, was that a freak out moment!!

Glad everything came out OK. My perspective is to keep rawhide products away from dogs. One less thing to worry about.

I know exactly how you felt about the rawhides! We used to always give the dogs raw hides until one day my grandfather and absolutely had a fit about it! Some people I asked agreed with him and said to they NEVER buy them..and other said those were the only kind they bought. I think people are more worried because they are potentially hazardous...luckily Sam prefers the marrow bones. I'm glad to hear it solved itself :D
