Antibiotics?

A little while ago, Huff had pyoderma. The vet said it was a very mild case and gave us some antibiotics. We gave them to him and he got better. I was wondering if we could have given him something other than antibiotics. Is there ever a substitute for antibiotics?

Well, I understood Taylor's answer in a different way than you and F. When she said "medicine" I took it to mean the typical cold remedies that you mentioned Adina. Taylor did not say that she chose not to take ANTIBIOTICS for a cold-just medicine.   Which I took to mean decongestants, cough meds, etc.

 

I think she was just using it as an example of how she choses to use natural methods if possible in any given situation.  Perhaps she can clarify.

After suffering through two bad colds while either pregnant or nursing and not being able to take any medicine to manage the symptoms...Id LOVE to hear of 'natural' remedies that work because when it came to my sore throat NOTHING but Tylenol or Ibuprofen even touched the pain. I tried all the teas, honey and gargling and charcoal, etc but was miserable for a long time.

And I did understand that Taylor. I was just trying to explain why sometimes it is important to treat certain bacterial illnesses with antibiotics.

Exactly. Sometimes I need you to help clarify things since I do tend to get brief in my replies since typing is not my favorite thing. I should dictate, I have all the gizmos to do that.

I always use antibiotics when issues are serious, but I use silver colloids for many things that are not, but still need treatment. I first heard of it from my holistic vet who prescribed it for my 5 day old puppies. Now I use it for many, many things from mild eye infections to skin infections to gastro issues. Not only for my dogs either. It is now a popular people treatment around here. I have cleared up things like atheletes foot, mildly infected cuts and sore throats to name a few.

This is a good review of silver used therapeutically albeit from Wikipedia. I think that external usage is fine if it works for the condition for which you're using it. But I would caution you on ingesting it. Please read the possible side effects from this.
