Just curious.  My new pup weighed 5.5 lbs at the vet this weekend at 8 weeks old.  Does that mean he'll be tiny?  I was hoping for at least a 30 pound Doodle.  Of course, even after 3 days, I love him to pieces so it really doesn't matter, but just curious.

Dad is Micah, miniature Poodle from Almond Blossom Doodles, and Mom is Katie, English Retriever.  I know Katie is a small retriever, but I have no idea how much each of them weighs.

What did your pups weigh at 8 weeks and what is their adult weight?  Thoughts?

ps I searched to see if this discussion already existed and didn't come up with much.  It seems like it would have already been there so apologies if it has and I just didn't search properly!

I heard to take the four month weight and double that. Then your dog could be plus or minus up to 10 pounds. Bear was 7 pounds at 7 1/2 weeks, at 4 months he was 28 pounds. He is 10 months now and is 52 pouinds. His mom is a standard though. Look up Kachi Behr, he is from Almond Blossom too and I think he came from Micah also. He was the reason why I had to get a doodle in the first place. Saw him on the Almond Blossom website and thought I gotta get one.

Your puppy is beautiful. Have fun.
Thank you Heidi! What a nice compliment you have given our Kachi! I'm happy to know Kachi helped you decide to get a doodle! They are just the best dogs ever!! Your Bear is adorable!!
There's probably a discussion about puppy sizes in the Puppy Madness group.
I agree that it's very difficult to tell at this stage. My puppy was 8.6 pounds at 12 weeks and is now just hit 17 pounds at 11 months. We didn't have him at 8 weeks, but I would guess he was around that 5.5 lb weight. The breeder has thought he'd be in the 20 - 25 lb range. I'm guessing his final adult weight will be just under the 20 pounds. We thought Guinness would be a little larger too, but he's an easy, manageable size, and we're not at all disappointed. I love that he fits in my lap (barely). I think Omni is a cutie!
Hi Mikol! We also had heard about the 'double the weight at 4 months and then add 10 lbs' rule. And it definitely applied to Kachi At 16 weeks, he was 25.1 lbs, and now he is about 54 lbs. He was 9 1/2 lbs at 8 weeks. Now Halle, our female GD weighed only 6 1/2 lbs at 8 weeks. She was petite like Omni. At 16 weeks, she weighed 14.3 lbs. Today, at almost 8 months old, she is approx 25 lbs. I doubt that she will gain another 10 lbs, but as you can see, doubling the 4 month (16week) weight -give or take a few lbs-is a pretty good tool. But another good rule is, (and one we should have known when we got Kachi) is " A Big puppy is going to be a Big Dog! (and vice versa)
Your baby is sure precious!
Peri was 7 pounds at 9 weeks. She is a mini - father mini poodle (14 pounds), mother golden (50 pounds). It is still hard to tell, as others have said. Peri is now 24 lbs at 10 1/2 months.
Check out our discussion in Puppy Madness about weight. And welcome...Omni is sooo cute.

I was just wondering what your puppy's weight is now. We will be picking up a goldendoodle from Almond Blossom in 2 weeks. Parents are Katie & Micah. Thanks! Jill

Omni is about 30 lbs now.  I had hoped he would get bigger, but I don't think he's going to.  He just turned one a few days ago.  Good luck with your pup!!

I am actually surprised Omni is that big!  Peri was bigger than he was as a small pup, but is only 25 pounds at 21 months.  30 lb is pretty big, given the dad was a mini poodle!

Just as long as Bodie is big enough to push open the doggie door that we have for our 60 lb lab...I'll be happy!  Thanks!

He may be 28lbs - I was just rounding up since i haven't weighed him in a month or two.  I was hoping for closer to 50 lbs like some of the medium doodles get, but his mom was a slight retriever too.  It's ok - they  good part about him being "small" is i can carry him whenever i need to!  LOL  My toddler is about the same size, so that's good too.  Poor dog gets tackled by my two year old son all the time.  =)
50 lbs is pretty big actually.  Some 50 lb doodles can get taller than my 90 lb'er depending on those leg genes.  So weight alone isn't that helpful in determining 'size' since tall dogs look bigger than short dogs that weigh more.
