Aussie Poo needs a home

My Sully will be 1 year this month. When I bought him and flew him home I knew he had serious behaviour issues. He is a really sweet, gentle and SUPER smart pup, but he is scared to death of people. I have tried for months to socialize him, but I am semi handicapped and cannot walk hardly anywhere. He needs socializing and I know he"ll be fine.  He is not agressive with dogs or food and loves to play with other dogs. He is always on my lap and gives kisses all the time. He is not mean and lets me bath and groom him - he is very docile, not overactive like crazy Oliver! But if there is someone who has lots of training ability and can take him out to socialize him, I would rehome him at no charge.  I love him so much, but his fear keeps him from being happy and that is what I want for him. I cannot take him to classes due to my handicap, But I have raised show dogs for many years and know how to train. He learns a command almost instantly and I think he would be great for agility.  Can you, my friends put the word out to see if we can find him a loving, patient home. No kids. He knows my grandchildren, but is afraid and that's not good.

I will not let anyone foster this dog.  That is all he needs is to be uprooted more than once.  I just wanted to see if there is an experienced owner that knows how to socialize a dog properly and work with him. Believe me I have rehabilitated many kennel dogs and also fostered several. This dog is an absolute lover.

I am not in a wheel chair and perhaps I may know a little more about what this dog is capable of. There is no aggression. There is fear and that is different.

Thank you, I just get a little upset with some folks assuming that everyone is a novice. I raised Irish Wolfhounds for many years both in Conformation and Obedience. I had a kennel of over 17 and I do know a little bit about dogs and behavior. Thank you for your kindness and best wishes.

Are you still looking for someone for Sully????  I'm so sorry he still has not found a forever home... glad to hear there is no aggression... perhaps that may make it easier.  Good luck!  Maybe 2011 will bring you someone!

Yes, they are a really great couple, but I have had some family problems over the holidays.

I just found this web site and read your story about Sully and wanted to share a similar situation that we had with one of our rescue dogs.  We adopted an American Eskimo mix who also had fear issues when meeting people.  She would cower and pee a little bit every time anyone new came to our home or greeted her.  This may not be at all your issue but with ours, we discovered that if we told anyone who came to not look at her or talk to her, or pet her she eventually stopped her fear cowering and peeing.  It took a while but after about 3-4 months she had improved greatly.  We continued this until we noticed that she was actually starting to greet people on her own.  She lived to be 15+ problem free!  Good luck!

Thank you so much. I think Sully is a bit worse, but I do have visitors give him treats and pet him. Lots of paper towels used here!
