Negative & Photo Scanner Recommendation

Does anyone have a recommendation for a photograph and 35 mm negative scanner that is simple and produces a high quality image. I have so many older photos and I was looking at the Epson V600 scanner but I don't want to break the bank and I am not sure if there is additional costs for software also.  Any other recommendations from the group?

I've never used one, and I have a boxes of negatives. For what it's worth, if you got a good one you could probably find people who would be willing to pay you to scan their negatives and save them as digital files! :)

 I wish I had a recommendation for you, Linda. I've wondered about these and played with the idea of purchasing. 

It will be interesting to see what kind of responses you get to your question.

No clue - need one too!  I hope someone will have good recommendations for scanners at various price levels.  Not sure if this is the place to find such info but maybe others have had experience.  But, I think of it as an investment and sure must be less expensive than paying to have all pics, slides etc digitized (for me at least - I have a HUGE bunch waiting for me in boxes).

i received one for christmas and it's great. Kodak P8111, its small and quick not like my big scanner that takes time to warm up, etc.

Hold on.  Let me write my Brother In Law.  He did a fantastic job with years of photos.  He said it was simple and easy and " Even  you could use it Joanne"  <---HAH!

We have the Epson V5000 that we were given last year for Christmas.  My intentions have been in the right spot but I haven't had a a chance to personally use it yet.  That having been said though, it was given to us by my parents who have this model as well and LOVE it and my husband as tried it a few times and the quality is excellent.  I'm looking forward to actually using it THIS year LOL  and ironically dug out a box of negatives this morning to do just that.
