Bandit's hair is about 5 inches long all over his body.  Obviously his face, head and legsare a little shorter.  He doesn't matt at all.  Do you think it will just continue to grow? Is there anything to be concerned about when their hair is this long?  I really don't want to cut him because he looks really adorable, when it gets to be warmer we will have to cut him.  Can they even do a scissor cut on him?

wow, no matting? Monty is about 3-4 inches and has started to matt. He is 1 1/2 years old.  He has solid thick hair and it is very difficult and time consuming to brush him at this length. congratulations!
I know it's crazy!!  I was trying to grow Rosey long and it was constant brushing and she started to matt like crazy so now she will have to be forever short haired doodle girl,  I don't even brush him!!
I've learned (the hard way) that if Scotty's hair is more than 2", it gets matted and he gets really scratchy.
another thought.  6 inches and no matting?  well that just makes me sick.  so.........I'm a hater.
oh don't make Bandy cry!! No one hates him!!
Totally jealous!  Oh, for no matting!
NO MATTING at 6 inches long???? Not at my house. If I can get to 2-3 inches before the matts start I feel lucky. Altho the puppy is about 3+ inches now and she's not matted yet and she's 6 months old.  Maybe I'll get lucky like you did with Bandit?  One can dream can't one?
Rosey never matted until she was over a year old and her hair got to be about 4 inches long.  But now her adult coat is a totally different story!
So glad u ask, I have the same thing. Bamas hair is five inches but its trying to be more frizzy lately so I need to go shorter. He doesn't Matt yet and he's 8 months so I'm ordering those blades and guards someone had talked about. Because I only want to go down to about 4 inches. But I wandered the same thing, what's to long. I don't want a small head big body doodle. Hopefully someone can help!!!

If you are not having trouble managing his hair I would just let it go and kind of judge it along the way. It may get to a point where you don't like the way it looks anymore. Or he might start changing out coats and a cut would become necessary. I say enjoy it while you can!! It's gorgeous!!

Tara's hair was a good 5-6 inches long when she got her first cut and it was a scissor cut.  So, yes, the right groomer should be able to scissor cut it.

she doesn't look like a little old man, she looks just like Bandit!!  I think Bandit still has a lot of his puppy coat too.  I don' t notice beard stink or frito feet.  He doesn't have a ton of hair in his ears.  He does get groomed with Rosey every 6 weeks or so so he gets trimmed in all the right areas.

I can't find their brush so we have been a bit lazy on the in between brushing too!

I let Halas' coat get to about 8 inches before I had it cut.  It looked great, but he was matting, so his coat really needed about an hour of brushing every day, and I just wasn't able to keep up with it.  If it's not matting, and you like the way it looks, I say grow it as long as you want it.  Maybe just keep his eyes clear like you're doing.
