There as been some recent discussion about dogs on the furniture and where your dogs sleep so I was just wondering are these the rules at your house.

Dog Rules
The dog is not allowed in the house.
Okay, the dog is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
The dog is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
The dog can get on the old furniture only.
Fine, the dog is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed.
Okay, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
The dog can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers.
The dog can sleep under the covers by invitation only
The dog can sleep under the covers every night.
Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the dog.

In my house we are currently at the level of "dog is allowed on the furniture, but is not allowed on the bed"   I am sure it is only a matter of time.  Shelby has not tried to jump on my bed as of yet - she is 14 months old.  She has a comfy dog bed right by me on the floor and so far... she is content with that.  Although - if she jumps up on the bed and shows interest in sleeping there... I am sure I will crumble and let her!
For months and months, the only furniture Sedona jumped up on was the couch - and then only the end with her blanket.  We didn't really work on enforcing that, that was just the way things evolved.  Then one day, we left Sedona alone for a few hours - she had the run of the bedroom, the "Spa" room and the back courtyard.  When we got home and went into the bedroom, there she was, on the bed!  She spent the next 10 minutes jumping onto the bed, then off, then back on, as if to say, "Look what I can do!".  From that day forward, she was on every couch, chair, and bed in the house.  :)
great list...we started with rule 2...1 year later we have reached rule 5.  I estimate another year before reaching the end :)
the only 2 rules that we adhere to are no taking food off the table, and no counter surfing...Otherwise, they can go on the furniture, on our bed, Renny is too old to get on the bed, and Oliver comes up for belly rubs and cuddles, but then goes in his crate to sleep, and we have to close the crate door or he won't settle down...they are very spoiled, and we like it like that, lol, bad Mommy & Daddy, BUT........
Huff is allowed only in certain rooms and not allowed on the furniture. Poor Huff!

This is so funny!!!

My daughter and I laughed so heard when I read this to her. The other day she was explaining to her boyfriend how I am always squished up in the corner of my bed every night to accommodate the dogs....OK ......so.....what's your point!  :)

Louie too doesn't go under the covers...he's too woolly bully and gets too hot.

Sunny's rules were like this:

Sunny is not allowed upstairs.

Ok, Sunny is allowed upstairs, but only when I am up there.

Ok, Sunny is allowed upstairs all the time, but I keep all doors shut if garbage is in the cans.

Sunny will sleep in her crate at night in the kitchen with the other dog.

Ok, Sunny will sleep in her crate at night in my bedroom.

Ok, Sunny will sleep in my bed with me and the crate will be put in the attic.

One thing I am really strict about, though, is that Sunny is NOT allowed to bring toys or bones onto the bed. The few times that she has broken that rule, the toy or bone got confiscated and put in the confiscation drawer!

Confiscation drawer......I like that!
She totally knows what it is for, too!! Whenever I take a toy or bone from her and start walking to the drawer, she slinks around and gives me the "Please, Mom? I promise I'll be good, just give it back!" face.
We actually have that same rule.  No chewing or playing with toys on the furniture or bed.  I'm not certain how this started but I think it had to do with not wanting them to chew on us.
I started the rule because she would get that sticky nasty goo from the rawhide chews on whatever she was on top of, and I don't want that in my bed.
That sounds about right except I have to ammend the dog to dogS plural!  Love it!
