Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We're always asked if Bernie, our Labradoodle, is a Goldendoodle because of his coloring. What's really funny is that he looks nothing like either of his parents!

I know it's usually a mixed bag when you're breeding dogs of different colors, I'm sure especially in hybrids, but I was wondering if anyone else had pics of their pup's parents they could share with us, especially if you got his or her mama's mini-me or a "where did he come from?" like ours!

Below in order is his dad, his mom and then our Bernie =)

I LOVE his coloring!!!  So beautiful!!

1st off, Bernie is adorable! And, he DOES look like his mother, in that he got his parti gene from her.

Lucy is a mini-me of both her mom and dad, a standard F1 labradoodle and a standard poodle, respectively . These aren't the best pictures, but the only ones I have of her parents. Mom, Dad, and Lucy, in that order.

That's true, the parti gene is definitely from his mama! And it's hard to tell in photos but he has little ginger colored freckles on his legs like her too. Lucy is a doll! Is that a post groomer shot or is she always so precious? Is she really lighter than her parents or is it just the photo?
Thanks Amy, and yes, Lucy's photo probably was taken shortly after a grooming, as most of them are :), but she looked like that most of the time as I kept her groomed. She's recently been cut way too short-short-short and unfortunately, doesn't look like that now, but we're working on getting there. Lucy does seem much lighter than her parents. She was one of the lightest of her litter. Many were apricot or dark apricot colored. Her parents are technically called 'cream', which is also Lucy's color description. Lucy's lightened as she's matured. If you go to my page and look at my 'photos' you'll see she was a much darker cream in the early weeks. She has her mom's facial expressions and sweet disposition, and I see so much of her mom in her. I never met her dad, but I can see him in her too, especially after Lucy's last cut (the face).
What a face! I'll bet she gets kisses 100x a day! :-)

Peri's dad was a parti poodle - red and white (looked similar to Bernie's coloring actually).  Peri is pretty solid, but has darker markings on the back of her legs, which must be from the parti factor.

I have commented on your photos - I think your doodle is tooo cute for words!!!!!!!

Thank you! Peri is such a cute little girl, I was a bit jealous reading her growth chart, haha. I also love her head hair, so cute, my husband calls that "the Kramer" on Bernie =)

Bernie is adorable - love his markings! I think most people aren't used to seeing parti-colored doodles of any kind.  I don't know what kind of labradoodle he is, but I know ALD breeders have their dogs DNA tested to see what color they carry. That way they can better predict what they might be getting colorwise in a litter.

I was just looking at some pictures of parti-color ALDs at Seaspray Labradoodles. The parti-colors are just wonderful. :-)

Thank you! We're very new to Doodles so I had no idea Bernie's coloring was all the unusual. His father is an Australian Labradoodle and his mother is an F1b. We would find him perfect no matter what, of course, but it is kind of fun, 3 out of 4 people we pass by on walks have questions about him =)

Thought I would join this discussion and the group, since I will new be raising one of the boys in my LD's litter born three weeks ago. It has been many years since I have had a young puppy--so this should be fun! My other two doodles came to me when they were 7 months and 8 months old.

Anyway, my Lyric's litter of 6 is a rainbow of colors but one looks just like mom, one looks just like dad. I think you can get  something like your gorgeous doodle when the parents both carry or are parti-color. It looks like the dad has a bit of white on his chest in your picture. That would mean he is a parti color too like mom and would make the chance of a dood with coloring like Bernie more possible. I love it! We are keeping the black and white parti from Lyric's litter, too--they are so cute. In purebred poodles, labs and retrievers, a parti-color is a BIG no-no...so you don't see them out and about. The breeders select away from parti-color, because a dog with that coloring would be disqualified and would jeopardize their whole breeding line. But we doodle breeders can enjoy the color pattern for it's beauty!

Here is dad, mom (the night before the pups were born)  and a photo of the litter!
