Last night I noticed that Rua had what looked like a little scab, surrounded by a red ring right before her pee-pee.  I gave her a bath and washed the area last night.  Tonight I checked it again.  The dark area is much larger and the ring around it is raised and slightly red.  She also has, what looks like an abrasion above and slightly to the left.  I just now wiped it with hydrogen pyroxide.

We went to California last Thursday and just came back late Tuesday.  She was playing quite a bit with her "cousin" Remy, so I suppose it is possible she got bit.  But, equally possible, it was a bite from some insect.  I don't have her on any flea/tick stuff right now (the vet said I could wait and start in spring...didn't think about that in bringing her out to California).

She doesn't seem bothered by it...no problems with eating, potty or pooing!  Same energy level as normal.

Any ideas????  Should I take her to the vet hospital tomorrow morning if it still looks like this or should I go now????  I told my DHI was going to take a picture and post it...he was appalled I would post her little pee-pee...but I told him that I was sure someone would know what this was and what we should do!

Thank you!!!!

I'm clueless but welcome back.  Rooney has missed his Rua!
Thank you!  I have gone thru DK withdrawal.  It looks like (provided this isn't serious) Rua WILL be coming to Florida with us next week.  We will be there all day Thursday thru Sunday.  Do you have or know of someone who has a crate I can borrow during that time?
We have a large crate,  we are located in Lighthouse Poit, just North of Fort lauderdale.  Where are you staying?
Got one here in California!

Rooney's kennel is very large and would not transport very easy.  I could loan you his ex-pen easier than the kennel.

I don't know what it is but I'd try a little triple antibiotic cream mixed with a little hydrocortisine cream. They cover most bases. I wouldn't run to the evt for this. Keep an eye on it, seeif it's healing, looks infected etc.

Sometimes scabs get a bit of a red ring around them which is just part of the healing process. And perhaps it got some urine on it which could have caused some irritation.  I would also recommend just keeping and eye on it for now.

Could this be ringworm? It sounds similar to how ringworm presents in humans - not sure if dogs can present this way or just patches of hair loss?
I actually just had a boy in my class with ringworm... the center is less bright than the outside... but Rua's looks like it's red all inside too...Tori had something like this when she was a puppy and the vet gave me some cream and that took care of it... good luck.  Boy Rua... you are turning into such the World Traveler, aren't you!  Who has a better life than you!?  HAVE FUN!
It is difficult to tell with her hair over the lesion.  I am wondering if it could be ringworm?   a fungus.  Does she scratch at it?  Or, a bite of some sort.  Is it flat or raised?

Dori...I don't think it is anything to worry about.  Gracie gets funny things like that on her tummy and surrounding area.  She is always jumping in and out of bushes and plants and I think they just get poked and scratched.  Also, after some rough playing she can show up with some little abrasions.  So...you were here in California with little Rua!!!  Where were you?  You had better not say San Diego or anywhere within 100 miles from here.  I would drive 100 miles easily to meet Rua...you too!  Anyway, just keep an eye on it.  I recently heard that hydrogen peroxide is not good to put on owies...human as well.  Something about killing the skin around the abrasion.  They say use the neosporin or something similar.  I have always used hydrogen peroxide.  Just does something to the skin and slows down the healing or something like that.  I wish I had listened closer when they were discussing it.

Hi again Dori...I was right (for once) about the Hydrogen Peroxide.  It kills the skin cells that are needed to heal.  Here is the article.  If you Google it there are many others that say the same thing.  Also years ago I heard to NOT use Neosporin but to use something like Bacitracin or Mycitration (sp) instead.  My DH just confirmed it.  We don't know why but remember our Pediatrician telling us this.
