Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was wondering if their was other dog parents on here who have a toy golden doodle. I have one who weighs in at 11 pounds. He is incredibly sweet, and loving.  I have a lot of experience with all different size doodles and I love them all. This is the first one I actually own, and I was looking to swap experiences with others who have Toy Doodles.

That is really tiny. I think there are a few other members with very small doodles.  My small dood is much larger than yours, but I am very interested in learning more about the really tiny guys.
I might like to have one if they have the same personality as the big guys:)

Rooney isn't a toy golden but he is a mini Australian, he is much bigger than Jack though - he weighs 16 lbs!  We expect him to reach someplace in the 20-25 lb range and he is only 5.5 months so we have a ways to go.  I think Jack might win the prize for smallest golden. Anyone know of one smaller?

I am so excited to find other people are just as in love with their doods as I am!!!! To date, I have not been able to find another Toy Goldendoodle as small as Jack. His litter mates are all a few pounds bigger then he is.

As far as his personality being the same as full size doodles. This is something I thought long and hard about before I got him. He was actually a gift to me and before him, I was not an animal person at all. IF you would have told me a few years ago that I would have allowed a dog in my house, I would have thought you were insane.

In the less then two years that I have had Jack, I have become and all out animal activist.

Anyway, back to his personaility, the issue with "little dogs" being yappers, ankle biters, and in general misbehaved dogs is a very real issue. It doesn't have anything to do with the breed, or not as much as you would think. It has to do more with the way they are raised.

From the research I have done, little dogs get nasty because they get away with more stuff because people veiw them as harmless because they are so little. I have always treated Jack the same way I would have treated him if he was 80 pounds. So no jumping on people when he greets them, no jumping on my lap without permission and no allowing him to do anything I would not allow an 80 pound dog to do.

I can tell you without a question of a doubt, had I let Jack be the boss of the house, he would clearly and happily take over.

I lived with four Golden doodles for about six months. One standard, two minis around 35 pounds and Jack my 11 pounder. Personality wise. The biggest dog was the most docile, most aimable and the lowest maintaince. He was also a rescue dog so I am not sure how much of his submissive personality came from being abused. The mini doodles and Jack had similiar personalities. Actually, Jack was better behaved and more well mannered then the minis but I think that was just because, I am stricter with what I allow him to do.

Jack is extremely spoiled by not only me, by his Grandma, my mother.. He has four huge toy boxes filled to the brim with toys. He plays with all of them and loves his toys. He is in many, many, play groups. He went to daycare since he was about 14 weeks old. I socliazed him to  the max as a puppy and now I have yet to find anything that scares him.

He is very happy laying at my feet, snuggling in bed with me going for walks and meeting new people and dogs.

SO all that to say, I believe Jack has the same personaility as other full size doodles but I can easily see how he would have the propensity to fall into little dog syndrome had I not learned so much about it and proactively sought to not allow that.

Sorry I am not at my regular computer and I can really see what I wrote to well to go back and do spell check!!!

Thank you so much!!! Albus is really cute too!!! I love all doodles in all different sizes.. I just adore them. I honestly wish that instead of being a human RN that I would have become an animal RN. I can't get enough of them. How long have you had Albus for??? I too often thought about working in a doggie daycare, so much fun!!!
Check out DeeDee and Sheila.  Sheila is a tiny, tiny ALD.  You and DeeDee might like to exchange tiny doodle stories. I mentioned that Ned is much larger than Jack, but still a small doodle.  The only thing that I think is a real disadvantage of smaller dogs in general is the sound of a smaller dog bark.  I would much rather hear the lower timber of a big dog bark.

LOL about the bark, I know what you mean. I know this is because I am totally blinded by love, but to me, I love his barks. I can tell what his different barks mean, if he is barking at a cat vs a dog there is  a big difference!!!!

I will check out Sheila and DeeDee, Thanks.
