Hi everyone. I'd like your thoughts concerning raw diets, what your doodles eat and any recommendations you have about feeding.

Sam is getting pretty picky about his food and now I am trying a frozen, all natural raw food for the first time.

Thanks Susie. Are you adding any veggies or fruits?
We purchase some from blueridgebeef.com but also rawhealthpetfood.com only because we have three doggies that are very elderly and cant handle chewing large bones so the raw we get has it ground up. Lincoln still isnt used to eating a raw chicken so the ground up works great. Whether raw or dry its good to have variety. We feed 100% raw but they also get the follow:

raw virgin coconut oil
Dr Goodpet Digestive enzymes
Nortic Naturals fish oil
probiotics

when we juice or blend in the mornings ( which is ever morning) the dogs get some that i will either give then or add to their meat which usually consists of hemp seeds, sometimes almonds and cashews spinach, romaine lettuce, pineapples, apple, spirulina and more.

Whatever we eat for dinner they also get extras

im in the process of starting an area in our backyard that is very shaded for wheatgrass just for them. While its healthy to eat any grass ( we do not use pesticides) wheatgrass is WONDERFUL!

Oh yes, back to raw.. I am a true believer that it keeps fleas away and also their poop breaks down very quickly. Some times if they are straining it can be normal however other times it could be that they are getting to much calcium from bone.

I attribute my rescue xracers greyhounds long life ( 14.5yrs) to a raw diet that is supplemented with lots of goodies.

Ah, I also forgot to add that doodle boy, Lincoln looooooooves seaweed: Nori, wakami and dulse are some of his favorite. crunchy munch and chew lol

I have fed my dog Jack raw diet, I have to admit he wasn't a huge fan of it. I supplement his diet with raw foods on occasion and I use Instincts Raw food, It comes in patties already made that have the proper nutrition in them that he needs.

There is also a group " Raw Food Eating Doodles" and the Food Group has tons of information on all types of foods.

I do a little of dry, cooked and sometimes raw as I feel the variety will cover all the bases and I just don't want to rely on one type. It makes it easy because I know they will eat whatever I give them. Having said that, my two are very food driven, but I my homecooking may have had something to do with that, but I don't really care, I know they are happy healthy and very well fed.

I do the exact same thing as you, He is on Instinct grain free kibble, just a tiny little bit, mixed in with either a tablespoon of canned food or sometimes a raw food pattie. I always give him table food that is healthy. I eat very healthy so he usually gets wild salmon, or some other type of wild fish (cooked). He gets some organic chicken breast, (cooked)  I will also give him a little sweet potato but that is not his favorite. Once in a while brown rice or pumpkin.

He does eat raw bones and he loves them!!!!!!!  I would cook for him myself but I am not comfortable in knowing he will get a well balanced diet. So this way all my bases are covered. I have to admit on occasion I do let him eat a beggin strip. I know horrible but he loves them, Usually he eats duck, chicken or lamb jerky or some other type of healthy snack.
