If antlers,nylabone and rawhide are no good then what is?

Since none of the above are not safe then what is.My dog is a very agressive chewer and i need something i can feel safe giving her.I was giving her nylabones and throwing them out as soon as i seen a piece broken off.But i now know about the dangers of them.I always knew about rawhide and intestinal blockage.then i just found out about antlers and broken teeth.So my question is what is safe for them?

I buy the bones with marrow in them. Theres about 12 of these  in the family room. There are nice because my dogs love to chew. Sometimes I put peanut butter in them. What  a treat.These bones are about $8.00 but they last for a long time.I buy them at the pet shop.

We give Leo compressed bones.  They come with filling peanut butter, beef flavor or I think a chicken variety.  We have everyone we've ever bought him in a basket.  They are the only thing that he doesn't destroy....even kongs (although the black kong has lasted-he just doesn't like it)  When the filling is gone I continue to put peanut butter in it as the middle is hollow.

I have heard that as long as the bones are not cooked that a dog can eat any kind of bone safely.

Cooked bones will splinter and they lose their natural calcium and minerals. A raw bone does not splinter.  The only thing I give Hunter are raw bone's  - preferably deer legs since they are organic, no preservatives or any of that junk.

If you can get them raw, frozen deer leg bones.  They don't splinter or break off in small pieces plu all natural, organic,  no preservatives, hormone's nothing.  My husband is a hunter but is tagged out this year so I have to move on to our friends to give me theirs so I can get my stock of them back up again.  You have to use a saw to cut them into smaller pieces but for us totally worth it.

Jared, did you try the nylabone durable dental dinasour for powerful chewers?   That is the one chew that we feel is safe in our Labradoodle Kennel and they can be washed in the dishwasher or washing machine and can also be bleached.   We have one in almost every crate for nap and nitetime for our young adult dogs and have never seen a large piece bitten off of them.   they have chewed down the heads  on a few of them but only little bits at a time no pieces, like shaving it off.   Our dogs love them and they need the chewing.   Just curious and would really like to know if you tried them.   Don't be confused between the "flexible" and "durable" ones though as our dogs chewed thru the flexible ones  like they were candy.   Sherri

I had never given my almost 4 year old doodle chew toys because he was such an easy puppy. When our now 5 month old pup came along he needed chew toys galore to distract him. I learned about antlers on DK. After about a month and a half of chewing antlers, all of the tarter on my big boy's teeth is gone! This has saved hundreds of dollars on teeth cleaning expenses. I always suggest bully sticks. They are more digestible than raw hide, don't make a mess on the dog's fur and I've yet to meet a dog that doesn't like them. Just make sure they are from the USA.

A good "toy" to chew on is a WestPaw TUX. You can put treats, pumpkin, etc in them or no filling at all. My guys love them just like they are. Made out of a patented material called Zogoflex, they are VERY durable but have enough give to keep the dog interested. One thing that makes them tougher is they are solid - not open in the middle like some other chew toys are. I have sold more of these in my store than I could count and have yet to have a complaint or return. WestPaw stands by their products 100%.

I have also used GI Bones by Merrick, but you have to watch carefully for chips and cracks. I remove the marrow inside because it is too rich for 2 of my 3 dogs. They are also a little messy if you have carpeted floors. :-)
