Hi there! Silly question, but do puppies sweat have a funny odor to them? I keep smelling what smells like pee on Ella's blanket in her crate, but it is always dry and no stains... Has this happened to anyone?  I really don't think that she is having accidents in her crate, because we let her out every 3 hours at night. I always check the blanket to make sure, and it is dry...

I would be sure to wash the blanket in case a tiny bit of pee got on it after she wet outside. That way she won't be tempted to use it as her potty pad. Puppies/dogs don't sweat, they pant to cool themselves off. She is the cutest puppy. I can hardly stand how cute she is!
I agree with Bonnie. She could have "leaked" a tiny bit.
Thanks! I think she is very cute too :) I am washing her blanket every few days. That makes sense... Thanks! I will continue to trade the blanket every few days!! I don't want her sleeping in anything!
My puppy's pads sweat! He used to have an airline type crate that was too hot for him. His feet would sweat so much that his bed got damp. There was no odor though. When I let him out, his feet would leave sweaty paw prints on the floor. His feet still sweat if he's hot or if he's nervous. I remember other Doodlekissers mentioning this, too.

I did a quick Google search because I was curious. Take a look at this Web site:

Could this be what you're smelling?

Oh my goodness, this is so interesting! Thank you for informing me on this. Fascinating.
You're welcome! I never knew this about dogs until I got Barley. We've had plenty of dogs before, but never a dog whose feet sweated until I got Barley. I had to check it out.
I think she may be leaking a little when she is excited.  My puppy definitely does that.  Wash the blanket frequently.  It may seem dry but if you are smelling pee, it is probably on the blanket (or the dog's fur).
Thanks for all your suggestions.. Those were very interesting links. Who would have thought :)
We had the same issue with Shadow and she was peeing a little in her crate.  Her fluffy hair seemed to soak it up right away so that the kennel would be dry but for us, it was definitely pee on her fur.  Figured it out one evening as she was sleeping on the floor beside me.  She peed in her sleep without waking up and her fur soaked it up right away made her smell something awful though... I'm hoping that will stop soon!
When Pretzel stays in his crate he gets very anxious and he drools excessively with a foul odor.  When you go to let her out of her crate, check her mouth to see if she's wet around her mouth (like she just left the water bowl).  In checking with our vet, he said Pretzel was suffering from anxiety and to consider an alternative to the crate.  We now keep him in a bathroom (door outfitted with large acrylic panel so his scratching doesn't ruin the door!).  His anxiety is much better and the foul smell is gone.  Check to see if Ella may be having a similar reaction to crating?
Thanks again for your suggestions!! I have been checking Ella, wiping her privates before bed, and checking the crate in the morning. NO SMELL!! I think that you were right when you said that there was a bit of pee on her fur.. Thanks also from Ella!!! She is a happy girl :)
