Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I’m a newbie so I apologize if this question has been asked 100 times:  I have a 12 week old Goldendoodle (mom golden retriever, dad standard poodle).  I’m madly in love with her and believe she is without a doubt the smartest dog I have ever owned.  One of the reasons I chose a doodle is because I loved their “funky” look.  I’m starting to think that Chesney will look like a tall golden retriever and not have the funky kinky or curly look of a doodle.  My vet tells me they see a number of Goldendoodles who look just like Golden’s – and that you would never know that they have any poodle in them.  So…I’m wondering if anyone has pictures of their doodle as a puppy who might look similar to Chesney now (very golden retriever-like), but who eventually grew longer hair?  Please understand – I’m thrilled with her either way, I just want to be prepared if she’s not going to get the “funky” look I was hoping for.

Take a look in the group from Pup to Adult, there are a lot of discussions about this and photos!  Welcome to DK!
Welcome Cary.  My hunch, from looking at the photos on your page, is that she will not have the 'funky' doodle look and will resemble a golden retriever more than anything.  But she's lovely either way!
I took a look at your photos on your profile page, and I'd say she will look like a golden, not so much like a "doodle".
While I agree that she looks like she may end up more like a golden retriever, in the pup to adult group look at Lucy and Sophie.  They are sisters from the same litter and you will see how one was much later to develop the doodle coat.  So you never know....

She is so cute!  Very shiny.  I think her ears will definitely be longer haired and are bigger like a poodle's.  Also she has the rounder eye shape.  I love the pic of her snuggling with the large dog (a Golder Retriever?).  ...maybe a little beard someday too :-)

I think there is a group specifically for less doodle doodles! It's called 'Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?'!

She is gorgeous - and she might get a bit more 'scruffy' as she matures =)

Yes, your doodle WILL look like a doodle - the perfect Chesney-doodle.  There is not "breed standard" and there are so many variations that each dog can define "doodle".  I wanted a more golden retriever looking doodle yet I ended up with a very poodley looking doodle, the perfect Webster-doodle.  Webster's sister looks like a beautiful black flat coated retriever, and another brother looks like a black Irish Setter (he has a "setter cut"). To borrow a phrase, Doodles are like a box of chocolates - you never know WHAT you'll get :-)  Congrats on your awesome pup and welcome to DK!

I love this topic in general, I did the same thing Cary! It's hard not to imagine what they'll look like grown up. Bernie is a Labradoodle, but just for fun, here he is at 12 weeks, still at the breeders, and then at 7 months, at the dog park. His hair was pretty straight as a puppy, with just a slight wave, but now it's gotten more wavy, but definitely not "curly".

He's beautiful!! Sunny is looking over my shoulder right now, and she just perked her ears up and poked the screen with her nose. I think she wants him to be her boyfriend!
So cute! And Sunny is a doll, she's extremely photogenic, I think you may have THE PERFECT profile pic!
Aw, thanks!! She's adorable. I don't think the camera can resist her!

I took a look at the pictures on your page, and Cooper looked similar at that age, and I saw pictures of the other puppies in his litter as they grew, and they all looked more Doodle. At about five months, he began to change to what I think of as a less Poodle looking Doodle.  I added one picture similar to the one on your page, and when he was probably a couple of weeks older than Sunny, and one taken a couple of weeks ago.
