explosive liquid diarrhea

Cooper has been taking some holistic medicine to rid her of tapeworms which we think is causing her problems, but hasnt had any since she got sick

 

..... she had explosive diarrhea when we were at work tuesday - we came home to 3 big puddles and splatters all over the kitchen and lounge (thankfully we dont have carpet there). DH and I had Wednesday off and spent the day washing towels, cloths, her bed, the futon cover etc and washing her bum. DH had today off work too. Tomorrow we both have to go to work, we cannot get the day off.

 

She is still pooping pure liquid. She has had nothing to eat apart from some pumpkin, 2 eggs today, and a few little treats as a reward for coming back inside. She is drinking lots of water thankfully.

 

Is there anything else we can give her to help the diarrhea , maybe pepto bismol?..... She is feeling fine in herself (apart from being hungry)

Is it possible that the diarrhea is separate from the tapeworm?  Charlie had explosive diarrhea like that and it turned out that he had 3 different kinds of bacterial infections in his digestive tract.  After just 24 hours on the antibiotics the explosive diarrhea stopped....of course he had to take the antibiotics for longer than that.

One of the side effects of many herbs, though, is diarrhea. I believe the herbal preparation is causing this; tapeworms themselves don't cause explosive diarrhea, even when they are dying off after medication.

Im pretty sure the diorrhea is from the medicine.... we expected 1 day of it (testimonials from other people who have used the medicine on their dogs). She has had no medicine since Monday (that was the end of the treatment)

 

Cooper is doing much better today, the pooping is much less and now can let us know she needs to go rather than it just happening. She has been full of energy the entire time!

Thanks for the update! I'm glad that things are calming down for Cooper!! Hopefully the worms are gone too!!

I cant imagine how the worms would survive in there after this!!!!!!

 

In a way I wish Cooper was feeling a bit ill..... shes so energetic, she expects her usual play and walks and trips to the park.....

Right! After you have been working, cooking her special meals  and up all night cleaning up diarrhea!!!

You're probably right about the worms! If it didn't kill them it probably blew them out! LOL!

I give Alma cooked chicken breasts and Japanese rice for several days and then gradually add in her kibble.  Pumpkin worked horribly for her.  Hope Cooper feels better soon.

I never knew that finally seing mostly solid poop would make me so happy. Rosie seems to be recovering. She is soooo silly. I have been making her chicken, rice and cottage cheese diet. It takes lots of extra time and today she didn't want to eat any of that but wanted her regular kibble! What gives dog...why do you tire of good food so quickly. My Rosie is a bit of a drama-rama.

Give her rice and pumpkin and I think pepto bismol is ok for her take but im not too sure about that. I hope she gets better.

Cooper is totally sick of pumpkin and chicken, she wont even drink chicken broth

 

Tonight she is getting beef and rice.

 

I am so lucky - i work at a pet store and my manager said she could come into work today. Last time she came into work she spent some time in the store with me, and didnt understand that this time she had to stay in the office. I took my lunch break in 5 minute intervals throughout the day to say hi to her and to take her out on very frequent potty breaks. She had some diarrhea but only a little. I learnt that it takes 2 people to give a 60lb dog pepto bismol - Cooper has pink tinted fur on her face, neck and front legs!

 

Hopefully tomorrow she gets to stay home with her kitty friends!

Update

2 poops last night, 2 poops today at work (thankfully not in the office) I think she is on the mend
