Found Piece of Plastic in Taste of the Wild

This morning I found a piece of plastic in a 30lb bag of TOTW Roasted Lamb, production code TDS1201 D21MS0156 JDR, best before 02DEC2011.  I contacted TOTW, they said not to feed the rest of the bag in case there is more.  TOTW requested I send in the production code, piece of plastic and place of purchase/receipt for refund.  I wanted to make sure that other Doodle parents were aware in case more than one bag had a problem.  TOTW has been one of the only foods that none of my dogs have had problems with.  I have to admit it makes me nervous now hopefully it's a isolated incident.

Thank you so much for sharing this!  Gus and Molly eat TOTW High Prairie, and I hesitate to switch because they are doing so well on it, but I will definitely be on the lookout for any problems.

You only found that because I just switched Jack to TOTW. I swear you wouldn't not have found that otherwise!!! Every single time without exception that I have switched Jack's food, within a few weeks to months something comes up with the food.  UGGG I am really waiting to switch him to Orijen but I don't have a dealer yet around here.

 

Now once I finally get Jack on Orijen, I am not responsible for anything that happens!!!! This looks like it is an isolated event. ( I hope)

I feel your pain Jennifer.  I thought I was the only one having that kind of frustration after switching foods.  TOTW has been a really good kibble for us and I'm not planning on switching right now.  But will be looking a lot more closely at the food when scooping.  I'm just happy I found it before feeding.

I would hope they would give you more than just a refund - they told you not to feed the rest of the bag so you need at LEAST a refund of that bag.  It would be nice if they gave you a coupon for a free bag or two.  thanks for alerting us!

I had a similar experience with a large bag of First Mate dog food (the food the breeder had Lucy on when we brought her home). It appeared to be a bundle of hair, but I learned later was a piece of frayed conveyor belt from the manufacturing facility (the conveyor belt was in the process of being replaced). I contacted the manufacturer and they requested the foreign object be sent to them. In return they gave me a coupon for a free bag of food. Unfortunately, about that time I'd decided there were better foods out there for Lucy and ended up with a bag of food I didn't use.

We recently stopped feeding Maizey TOTW as we have found various odd sized and shaped kibbles in each bag we have purchased. We contacted the company and they said we were the first to complain of it, but after nearly 6 bags of food, we decided it wasn't worth it to risk Maizey's sensitive tummy issues with a food that wasn't 99.9% reliable (no one's 100% right?!?!)

 

Just our own experience, but otherwise TOTW seems to work well for a lot of doods!

I feed TOTW to my dogs and pour it from the bag into a container.  I have never found different size kibble or foreign objects in any of my bags, if that is any solace to you, I buy two bags a month. We have been using TOTW since September.

Thanks Nancy...I started feeding TOTW about 6 months ago too.  Since the store is 35 miles from my house I usually buy 2-3 bags at a time.  Getting a bag with a piece of plastic in it is the kind of luck I have.  I poured the rest of the bag in a bucket and didn't see anything else in it.  What's irritating is I just opened it yesterday and only used maybe 8 cups, plus it was my last bag.  At least the dogs gave me extra kisses for getting a whole bowl of cooked food instead of being mixed with kibble.

The reason I don't feed my guys Orijen or Fromm is because I would have to drive about 35 or more miles to get it.  I also do not want to mail order it. That it is your last bag - that is the real tragedy!  Not your best day!
