Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So doodle friends. It has been nearly two months since we rescued Johnny from DRC and none could be more happier than we are as he truly is the most remarkable dog I've ever known. One small dilemma...no one seems to know exactly what he is??? My vet reckons he is a Portuguese Water Dog and so do a few people I meet at the dog park. I have been online and checked them out and yes, he does look similar, but his tail is docked and therefore, kind of resembles a poodle. His coat is not poodle though. It is very dense and thick and grows slowly. I am attaching two pics and hopefully, my keen-eyed dog loving friends can shed some light to this mystery. Whatever he is however, we could not love him any less as he truly is a gift from God.

Yes he does but she has a tail....lucky girl..
I think the way his forehead with eye/cheek area is is more poodlish than PWD.  I see DNA in a DNA his future.
Ha ha Nancy. You so know me. I too think it is DNA testing to just set this straight.
My first labradoodle had his tail docked. We got him at 4 months.
I love their gorgeous fan tails..but I am sure Johny's would be all tight and curly like his coat even if he had a tail.
I don't know what Johnny is, but he is beautiful. Murphy has 4 friends that are PWD. On that basis, I think he looks more poodley.
Thanks Linda I totally agree, but it is definitely going to be the DNA testing that hopefully will solve this mystery.
Frances, you could try to let Johnny's facial hair grow out a bit, just be ready to cut if necessary.  I do not know what Ned's beard would be like short, it certainly is straight while it is long, but the rest of the coat around his face and neck and under his ears is really curly - maybe the curls straighten.
He's cute, that's for sure.

Johnny is one gorgeous dog!! Actually, the word 'stunning' might describe him better!

Here is a picture of baby Spud.  His first shot.. when he held still.  Kind of blurry but you might be able to see he is thick and tightly wound--fur that is. He is also tightly wound mentally.  But really I was just here to compare the fur   :)    Spud is an f1b.   His ears lay the same and his hair is super thick and curly.

Check his paw pads.  Are they webbed?

I say F1B Labradoodle. He reminds me a little of my Fudge and I have been asked if she was a Portuguese Water Dog. In all fairness though, I have also been asked if she is a mop or a Sheepdog :) Whatever he is, he is a gorgeous dog.
