Ok, doodle women, I've been searching, becoming more confused. What do you think causes UTI? I feed MOnrty Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover. He gets lots of treats. Mainy carrots, sweet potatoe, No salt chips, sometimes cheese, sometimes chicken jerky, sometimes junk treats from the store> what am i doig wrong? do i have to anayze everything? I read an article online today that suggested a vegetarien diet would cause a higher ph in urine, which i've found out to be a bad thing to get uti?

High-carbohydrate diets, particularly those that are grain-based, can raise the urine's Ph, so grain-free diets can help with dogs who are prone to struvite crystals. But diet isn't a factor in all UTIs. Giving dried cranberries might help.
Sharon I know you are looking for a cause and I don't have the answer to that question.:( But I may have at least a partial answer to treatment. D-Mannose is a natural product that I have successfully used for years to treat my own chronic bladder infections. It is appropriate for all animals as well. I have never had the need to use it for a dog though so I have no experience with using it in that manner.
This product is sold in pretty much any supplement store or natural food store that carries remedies or on line. I have added a link to a site but it is just for informational purposes I am not familiar with this company or endorsing them in any way.
It might be a way to avoid those visits to the vet for the UTI's! Good luck!
