Well it's getting to be that time of year when we have to decide what we are using for flea and tick protection...last year we used Frontline + but after joining DoodleKisses I see a LOT of negative feedback about it.

Daisy never had a flea or a tick and we have Dear ticks around us and walk her through many a woods when the weather warms up.

What is everyone using and is anyone else thinking about switching to something new this year?

I'm still using Frontline Plus.

Jack is on treatment year round because we live in SC. I use Iverheart for heartworm, it also has a dewormer for tape worm built right in. I just started using K9 Advantix for Jack.

I hate putting chemicals on him but in the South, you do not really have a lot of options.

I'm going to continue to use Frontline Plus.  I skipped January and February, but I'll put them back on it in March.

Rosey is on Revolution

Bandit is on HeartGaurd and Vectra 3-D...

thanks for the reminder they are due for their dose!  And I am supposed to be putting something together about this for Health and Medical Group.. I will try in the next week to get a comparison posted there.

Suzann, it there a specific reason they are on different meds for this?
I am in California and Frontline Plus seems to work for us here.

We have Mitzi on Frontline Plus but our vet put Sgt. Pepper (note formerly known as Magic, Buddy and a whole slew of

other wonderful names!) on Comfortis.  The reason being it is internal and won't wash off as easily as a topical.  The negative is it does not work on ticks, it is only for fleas.

Louie is on Frontline Plus and Heartguard. He had Lymes Desease when he was 9 months old that was really scary...very high titer, very symptomatic, unable to move.  But was treated with antibiotics for a month and also got the lymes vaccine. We are in PA where almost every family has at least one member that had it. Some dogs aren't symptomatic early and sometimes can't be saved. Very Sad.

We did Revolution last year and it worked great for fleas and heartworm but HORRID for ticks!  Since ticks is a big problem we are doing K9 Advantix this year.  My vet reccommended K9 Advantix so I ordered it and I am waiting for my Advantix shipment to arrive.  I have already picked ticks off my dogs so I am seriously hoping that this works!

I think it might be regional - maybe fleas and ticks in certain areas have built up a resistence to Frontline +.  We used it for years with success but it quit working 2-3 years ago.  Seems to be the situation in my area (middle TN) with many dog owners, so we switched.  If Frontline + is working for you, I don't see a reason for you to use something new.

After a loooooong battle last year which included trying Advantix and Frontline, I found Comfortis and a premise spray for the house and we are now flea-free.  I think last year was particularly bad for fleas, but I'm going to stick with what works for us!  If we go into tick country, I'll have to supplement with something that works for ticks too.
I use confortis, it is a pill that they take once a month.  I hated the other stuff, and it left the dogs coats greasy feeling, and they hated it when I applied it.  My vet gave me the pill to try and both my guys did just great on them.  I do use a tic collar, and since we live in Florida, we have a year round problem, but this has worked well the last 2 yrs.  My vet claims that they have found that Frontline is becoming less effective, so maybe the fleas and tics aree getting immuned to them? not sure, but I have been very happy so far.  It is not cheap, but it does work, at least for us...Of course check with your vet and see what he/she says...
Yep here in CFL,  Comfortis and Heartguard
