Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I thank you all for helping me with my questions lately.  We will probably choose our pup in the next week or two and we will get to choose between a boy or a girl.  I honestly have no preference so figured I'd go by what the breeder says and their look (right now they all look identical)   So, I am just curious as to what many of you have to say about the boy versus girl for a first family dog.  I read some people say the girls are laid back and lots say that there really is no difference.

Thanks!

Thanks so much, I better get to reading :)

This isn't going to help you one bit, but I just thought it was so funny when I originally heard it, I thought I'd share:

When we lived in Florida one of our neighbors with 2 little kids got a puppy.  They got a little wiener dog named Bella.  Adorable little puppy.  One day we were standing in the street talking about Bella and how they came about getting a Wiener dog and why a female vs. a male.  The Dad said, well, funny story.  When we were at the breeders house Emily (their little girl who was probably about 4 at the time) said "Daddy, I don't want one of those things on my puppy" .... thus the reason they got a female!

That IS funny.  The only con I can think for boys is the "pink rocket".  ;o
I think the official DK term might be "Red Rocket" or "Red Lipstick"  LOL     :o)
HA HA  Nasty but funny.
Huff's too....
If they are fixed, I don't think there is a huge difference. But I have heard that male dogs seem to be a bit more cuddly than female. I have found that to be true with Darwin at least...
I'll have to agree with Camilla... and this from a FEMALE doodle-owner (But "BT"="Before Tori" - we had a golden mush - a real lover boy and cuddler).  Tori cuddles and 'loves' but only on her terms when she's down right ready.  But LOVE her anyway!!!  LOL
In my humble opinion, males are cuddlier. Females in my family have been rowdier (humans and canines alike lol)!  I have a female and wouldn't trade her for the world, however, i was on the list for a male.  Her litter was mostly females and I wanted one from the mom...didn't want to wait and bitch was retired after Peri was born!
Glad  you brought this up!  My puppy is due in May with a pick up early July!  I was brought up with females and have always owned a female...was told they are more domestic, etc.  I actually thought I'd try a little boy puppy this time.  My biggest concern is whether or not the boys "mark" their territories, if you will, around the house!  My Mother, God bless her soul, always told me that in addition to if a female dog comes to your house to visit, your male will proceed to mark his territory.  Can anyone dispell this as an untruth???  Thanks!  (Good luck Jenny and let us know what you select!)!
Yes, yes yes, I agree with females being more independent and males being more affectionate.  Still would not trade either of my dogs of course :) :) :)
Not to totally refute you, but I can not imagine a more affectionate dog then my Allie. If that is the case, I don't think I could have stood a male dog from her litter lol ;0.
