She's a chocolate female about 2-4 years old, and she looks so sad to be in one of the worst high kill shelters in North Carolina. This shelter kills EVERY animal in their facility EVERY Wednesday.

There is a doodle backyard breeder somewhere in Harnett County that keeps breeding and dumping dogs at the shelter where they are killed if they aren't pulled or rescued. It makes me so angry!!!!

LOL. I thought I was nuts. Thank you.
Me too, Laurie.
Frannie and Callie....you are both so special.  Thank you!
That's really sweet of you to say, but we all know that Callie will do the heavy lifting! My main jobs will be to feed, water, walk, and pet. Callie will teach her the ropes of how to be a doodle!! (lesson one happened last night - Ruby got to sleep in my bed!)
I am so glad to hear all the good news about Ruby.  Poor baby...what a life so far!  She couldn't be in better hands.  She sounds like she is going to make someone a wonderful pet once she finds her forever home.  She is also going to feel so much better once the ear infection clears up.  Thank you for the update.  Hugs to Ruby and Callie!
Even after just two two doses of the ear meds she seems a little happier, and is flapping her head and rubbing her ears a little less. That may be hopeful thinking on my part, or she may just feel better that she's clean!! I don't know WHAT on earth she had all over herself, but I was terribly allergic to it (I know I'm not allergic to her. She doesn't even shed!). I itched non stop from head to toe until she got a bath last now. Now, she doesn't make me itch at all!!
Did the woman who advertised her on Craigslist really bathe her and take her to the vet?  That poor dog has been through too much. I wonder what would have been all over her to make you itch. Weird.

She took her to the vet - we have the paperwork on that. She ABSOLUTELY didn't bathe her, unless she used stink and dust instead of shampoo and water. Michael was great and cleaned up her face and trimmed her a bit so you can see her sweet eyes! She wasn't in the worst shape I've seen a foster come in (that is a tie between Wilbur and Harvey) but she was not bathed.

The things that weird to me is that despite the neglect and what had to be poor nutrition, her coat isn't in terrible shape. Her fur is the kind of texture that doesn't mat terribly. Callie can get a mat while walking from one room to another, so I was shocked and prepared to have to get her shaved down. Nope - trimmed out her mats and she's pretty good. She just needs some "shaping" as my hairdresser would say!

I thought maybe the lady bought her to sell and make a profit, but maybe she did indeed think she wanted a dog and got overwhelmed. In the end, I guess she did the right thing and surrendered her to the DRC. Your Callie must be an amazing and kind doodle to share her bed with a strange dog. I am so glad Ruby found her way to you and Callie.
We're still at a cold war status...I slept in the middle of the bed with a doodle on each side, with very little contact between the doods.

At the shelter, I met the woman and spoke with her briefly. She really did want the dog and thought she would be able to handle her. Their chocolate lab had died last year, and since then they had been looking for a new dog to fill the gap. They found her online and thought she would be perfect.

She simply got overwhelmed with 3 kids and her husband in Iraq.

I tried to bathe her!! She weighs nearly 60 pounds though, so I'm only 20 pounds more! She didn't want to get in the tub, so there was no way I could make her.
