Kashi the Panty Bandit!

Well, it appears Kashi has an obsession with panties.  I know, ewww.  He especially likes to sneak in my daughters room and steal them.  We then find panties throughout the house during the day.   At first, I thought my daughter (she's 17) was dropping them or something and not picking them up.  I could not figure out for the life of me why she would just leave them lay around!   Then I caught him chewing on them a couple of times.   LOL.  He also likes to chew the insides of her shoes.  He doesn't damage the outside, just the inner soles.  I have heard of dogs stealing panties before.  But, I don't like it.  8*(  Its gross...  And he is even getting in the clothes baskets and getting them out.   How do we correct this behavior?  I have only caught him in the act a couple of times.  So, not really enough for him to get the message.  Just wondering if anyone out there has had to or is dealing with this issue?  And, how was the outcome?

The first time I looked at this, I saw "pantry" bandit.  So, I was thinking, Kashi was raiding the pantry...I raid the pantry all the time...Kashi and I have lots in common.

 

Then, the word registered.  LMBO!  The labradoodle that I had, Ceilidh, was a panty thief, too.   Not only did she chew on them - I have a few pair that have a tooth puncture in them - but she ate some - which we didn't find out about until 4 days later when I came home from work to find a bit pile of disgusting something in her crate, which upon closer identification, I could see a Victoria Secret tag.  At least she was strictly into pulling them out of the clean laundry basket - the dirty ones went into a 3 compartment on wheels hamper and we were really good about getting the dirty clothes there!  This usually happens on my DH's watch, BTW!  He was taking the laundry out of the dryer and the doorbell rang.  Abandoned the laundry to get the door and totally forgot he left "treats" out!

 

She also did in two VS bra's.  One chewed, one partial ate...we found dreamsicle orange in her poo!

 

So, keep the laundry in hampers out of reach and work on "leave it" and "drop it".  Rua is sock and slipper thief.  She isn't picky with socks...mine or DH's...dirty or clean.  She LOVES my slippers!  Not DH's, just mine.  She naps a sock every one and then and I usually have to race after my slipper...but we are working on leave/drop its, and I can really see the difference.  I even got her to drop a tissue yesterday....and believe you me, tissues to Rua are like a Lindor Chocolate Truffle to me!

I have given up trying to correct Charlie on this.  Along with the panties he loves bras.  Takes them and goes to his bed with them and rolls around ending up with the straps all tangled around him.  It is rather funny except he ended up breaking the straps every time he stole one.  So what I have done is I leave an old one that he has already destroyed hanging over the end on the hamper.  Then when he feels the need to steal one, he takes that one and he is happy and I don't lose another bra.  Maybe if you get him his own panty and set him up he will leave the others alone in the hamper.  I know this isn't correcting the behavior but my guy is so stubborn sometimes I just have to laugh and find an alternative.

I haven't been outside to look around.  I am now worried that Kashi may have presents buried out in the yard for us to find!   LOL  Too funny!

Thank goodness he has not taken to bras yet.  Those are expensive!  I feel for ya!

We too have a 3 compartment hamper (no lid, but its pretty tall) in the laundry room.  The problem lies in my 17 yr old daughter.  Not to mention I have 3 other children (2, 3 and 14).  So, leaving doors closed is not an option, eventually I will find them open.  My daughter can attest to this as she has lost many makeup items to my 2 year old daughter!  If ever the house is quiet for more than 4 minutes, I hightail it upstairs to find her covered in makeup.  "Pwetty, Pwetty"   LOL  My 17 year old does not find it as amusing as I do.  You would think she would learn to put stuff up high. She is probably wondering why its all her stuff thats getting ruined...   Panties, makeup, etc...   Ahh the poor life of a teenage girl. 

Inevitably, doors will be left open.  I get it.   Maybe getting her a hamper with a lid on it will do the trick.   Along with some of the other ideas as well.  I will keep everyone posted.   Thanks again guys, and I loved the other stories!  8*)

Baxter is definitely a panty bandit.  I do not know how he gets them out of the hamper.  The other day I walked in my bedroom and he had vomited a pair of my panties.  I did not even know he had swallowed them.  Scared me to death.  I do not leave my things out but he finds EVERYTHING!

My laundry basket now goes on the bottom of the linen closet, too hard to reach under the first shelf even if I forget to close the door.  My kids' laundry basket is behind their bathroom door--definitely will be vulnerable when my daughter is older, but her underwear is of no interest at this point.  Porter trained me well.  In his first year, Porter wrecked maybe five pairs of panties and five bras.

Our laundry basket used to be in the downstairs bedroom and Ollie made away with a few of the undergarments at times. We have learned our lesson since and keep it in the garage. If Ollie ever goes into the garage, that's the first thing he tries to do.

No advice other than to ditto the hamper with a lid.  BUT I had great fun reading all the replies!

Oh wait...maybe if a cute boy comes by the house timed just right with a recent Kashi panty raid...maybe, just, maybe, your 17 y.o.'s embarrassment will create a solution =)
