There is a house in our community - a beautiful mansion really - on the market, no one living there, the family with children moved out a while back.  On our morning walk we went around back to the lani to get an idea of what it looks like.  OMG - there are 2 giant turtles living on the lani.  Empty food plates left near by.  So when WAS the last time that they were fed?  How do you take everything else and leave behind two turtles?  Are they the kind that could survive FL in the wild.  I'm going back soon with lettuce and my phone.  I'm going to go the realtor and get the facts and then tell her - that someone should help those poor things.  Nice lesson to teach your children huh?  Sick.

I'm sure their thinking process went something like this - "Oh well, they're JUST turtles..."  or "We'll leave them here and SOMEONE will find them and take care of them..."  I just don't GET some people!!!
While I can't imagine feeling about/thinking of any other animal (gerbil, mouse, hamster, turtle, fish) as I feel about/think of my dogs--still! It is only common courtesy (to the turtles that you brought into your care) to find them a home and not leave them behind.  How strange!

I realize that the economy is bad, people are walking away from their homes, even really expensive ones but you couldn't have made some provision?  How about the lessons to your children that animals are "throw away" items.  They should be ashamed.  The realtor "claims" that they are being fed but you can clearly tell that there has not been food back there for some time now.

Maybe they only eat once a day and fast so you haven't seen their full plates yet...?  In any case, I don't know anything about turtles...do they care at all if their people are gone?  I imagine they are less dependent on human companionship and IF (big IF) they are being watered and fed and are temporarily living alone, perhaps they are okay?  But, again, I don't know a thing about turtles except I can identify one if I see one :D
LMAO - turtles (I had one once when I was little) do not woof their food down like a dog.  If there had been food in there any time in the near past - I would have been able to tell.  I could be wrong but I don't think turtles would give a hoot that they have been left except if they were left to starve to death.  There is a reason why TurtleKisses doesn't exist - lol.

Are u sure?

and many others..................

LOFLMAO!!!
I was wondering what anyone could find funny about abandoned pets, now I know. Joanne, I love your sense of humour.
Caitlin, I will do the shark thing with you!!
The only bad thing is you will have to see me in a wet suit and it ain't gonna be pretty :)
My DD is just graduating from college and treated herself to a trip to Cancun for spring break (she has been saving her change for a year).  She texted me today that she went snorkling with the turtles.  When we took our one and only trip to Hawaii, we went with a guy who lived there during college so he knew all the best spots.  We pulled over to the side of the road at a small beach. Guess what! It was a turtle beach! We went wading and swimming with the turtles. The kids grabbed their shells and went gliding off with them. So very cool!

Laurie and Caitlin - you are both NUTS! People stay out of the water because of sharks they do not go in with them.

Now if you mean sitting in a shark cage that's different.
