Feels like I joined a club here on DK...I bought a car for the doods!

About 10 days ago my car died. I had a 2004 Jeep Liberty and it was a great car. I planned on driving it for at least 3 more years (I just love when I don't have a car payment). However, the temperature gauge in my car broke and while I was unaware of this it cause overheating to my engine to the point that my head gasket cracked. If you've not had to price out this repair before, it's extremely costly. I crunched a lot of numbers, cried, sulked, got a terrible headache, and ultimately decided that it made better financial sense to sell the Liberty and get a new car (because G-d only knows how long the engine would last after that repair).

 

After doing some hasty yet thorough research, I decided that I wanted a Honda. I test drove the new Accords and the new CR-Vs. The Accord was SO nice...it really felt like a luxury car, in its ride and amenities. The CR-V was a bit more basic, but still acceptably nice. So, I did what any normal human would do...I got in the backseat of each and pretended I was Callie. That made the decision for me. If I was a tall doodle, I'd almost touch the headliner on the car. The CR-V has a super roomy  backseat.

 

Here's my real question (now that the story part is over)...if you have this car (or one like it) do you cover the backseat? What do you use?

We have a Honda CRV...honestly I haven't spent money on any of the "official" pet seat covers.  I try to always just have a bed sheet in the back so that if they manage to get themselves dirty, I just drape it over the back seat.  I tuck it under the headrests so it stays up and it is generally big enough to cover the floor too so it works for us at this point.

We have the CRV we use the backseat cover from Bed Bath and Beyond. It slips over the top of the backseat and then you tuck it inside the seat. We like it it is also washable which
Is good. You will love the CRV I think it is such a fun car!

You could check out my last discussion on this as there are some websites suggested regarding covers and other stuff. I do cover my seats now that my doodle has torn 2 holes in the leather, but I cover the back area as well as I have tan carpets everywhere.http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/need-doodlemobile

As long as you don't pretend you are Callie at the pet store and test out the treats. I use a hammock in my back seat the one used to keep your pets from flying off the seats when you make sudden stops, It serves dual purpose as it keeps the seat clean as well. I think it was around $25 at Walmart. I got it after someone posted about their dog suffering a broken hip in just such a case.

I DID pretend to be Callie at Petsmart once! I was trying on pinch collars to see how they felt. The workers there probably thought I was into some kind of weird bondage thing!

I wonder how long the "new car smell" will last?  My car always seems to smell like Doods. I also just cover the back seat of our SUV with a sheet that I can easily throw in the wash.  Congrats!

Congrats on the new wheels Frannie!! this is the cover I got for my car  http://www.petedge.com/product/Guardian-Gear-Pawprint-Car-Seat-Cove...  It has cute little paw prints and I have washed it and it came out fine!

I just took a blanket, cut a slit on each side that slips over the headrests to hold it up then cut two slits where the seat belts hook so that I could hook up their harnesses.  I also put a couple pillows on the seat just to make it all a little more comfy.  Mine pretty much stays set up like this all the time as our girls travel with me quite frequently and it is rare that anyone else does.  FYI I also added a rug runner over the floor because of the wet muddy little paw prints coming and going all the time.  FYI ..... I didn't get in the back seat to see if I thought they would fit, I took them to the dealership with me .... wanted to be certain I could fit two doodles and Mamaw in the backseat!
