It's definitely good to have insurance!
We have VPI too...we really have it for emergencies. It did not cover all of Dexter's ACL surgery, but it covered a nice chunk of it and the yearly rate is much lower than some other companies.
Thank you for thinking of me and Jack, Yes we have insurance, I took out the best plan that I could find for us which was the PetPlan Gold, I have zero co insurance and 50 dollar deductable. I do not feel everyone needs that much coverage, however, the reason I chose gold plan was because they will pay someone to take care of Jack when I am in the hospital. To date, Jack is two years and a few weeks old and they have paid out over four thousand dollars. I pay 30.00 a month. For me, this was the best option, Any insurance helps.
I told you how horrified I was when I went to the Emergency Room with Jack, it is a state of the art emergency room, with triage, and access to every kind of specialist that you need. I will tell you that I had to hand them a credit card after he was triaged .
I am blessed that my parents have given me a credit card to use in emergencies that has a very high limit on it, so Jack will never be without care, but I asked the lady, what happens if someone comes in here with their dog that is seriously injured but can be repaired and they can not pay, I asked if they take payment plans or if they would bill knowing the dog had insurance and they said NO. I almost threw up. The economy is hard. I can not imagine the pain and the anguish that someone would have to go through to surrender their dog to them, they will put the dog to sleep for you, but you can not have the remains back.
I totally understand it takes a lot of money to have the state of the art medical equipment right at my hands, it is actually closer then my emergency room, but they need to make room for a little compassion.
I when I feel better am going to look into doing some fund-raising for that hospital to have a mercy fund. I don't know exactly what I am going to do, but I am still sick with the thought of bringing my dog to get help and being told no payment plans are excepted.
Good for you for getting insurance. I heard recently and I don't remember where that if you are wondering if you can afford insurance then you sure as heck better get it because you won't be able to afford emergent care.
We have several years of premiums paid already and he is Just two. Granted a lot of it was for him to be cared for by others when I was in the hospital but still, money is money.
Congratulations, Heather. We have used VPI for more than six years now and they've always been very good to work with. Now, as Joe says - hope you never have to use it! :)
