Charli just came in from our yard. she was out there for 5 minutes and she came in with her head smelling like skunk! Not sure she met with a skunk or rolled in it. TG it is only the top of her head and Samantha & Mickey weren't outside with her!! Any suggestions besides a trip to the groomer to get rid of the smell?

I did search but couldn't find skunk smell removal' from all the DRC Voting that had a skunk! WOL!!

Thank you!!!!

Well, now I have 3 doodle heads that smell like skunk! I found where they got it - a shrub inside my fenced in yard. Each one was just smelling the shrub, obviously touched their head on the shrub.

The 'special cocktail' seems to have really lessened the skunk stench but I think we will do another dose later just to be on the safe side.  Off to buy more for the other 2 doodles - ugh!!

ive heard the hydrogen peroxide way works, but id be too scared to use that. There are a few good products on the market - Natures Miracle, Petastic (the original natures miracle - they sold the name and changed their name for some reason) and envirofresh http://www.envirofresh.com/pet.html and a few others. I have never had to use any, but i have been told by many people envirofresh is the best (I work in a pet food and supply store)
Tomato juice and lots of it.  Not the tomato juice cocktail stuff but regular tomato juice.  Hunter has been sprayed at least 5 times ~ we have a lot of skunks!  I have tried Nature's Miracle stuff and I believe Lynn is right it changed names and I can't remember what its called now either but I had to wash Hunter in it twice and it really irritated her skin.  Other than reeking of a Bloody Mary the tomato juice doesn't seem to bother her skin and she is very sensitive.  Good Luck!!!
Hunter actually brought a dead skunk up on the deck once and we had a really hard time getting it away from her!  It still smelled terrible and it was sooooo gross.
OMG Hunter!!!   You crazy girl!    I don't know what I would do.....surely a job for DH!
I can only imagine! I just know Echo will find a way to do this to me one day, I am sure of it!
Eewww!!!  Please, Hunter, don't tell Webster about that!  He doesn't need anymore ideas!!!

Adrianne...I know this is not going to help you now because you need to order it.  But, great to have sitting around for the next time...or any other odor such as barf, pee, poop, mildew...any odor you can think of.  I bought it in the big gallon concentrate and then make up spray bottles.  My neighbor swears by it too because her Springers get skunked on a regular basis.  My neighbor across the street  6 mo. Doodle got skunked.  She called in a panic and I sent over my stuff at 11:00 PM.  It is the only thing I can think of that toally gets odors out.  It is rather sweet smelling initially but it goes away quickly.  Luckily Gracie Doodle has never been skunked but we had a lab that did.  All the store bought stuff never worked.  Tomato Juice doesn't either.  Get this XO stuff.  You will want to bathe your dog in it.  So far none of the dogs I know have reacted to it or had any skin, itching or issues.  Good Luck!

Ugh. I think I see where a skunk may have been digging up grubs and someday..I hope the doodles never run across a skunk. Glad your doodles and you have made it through without too much trauma.
Charli, you stink.
We've escaped skunks so far but I know we have one that lives around here.  I'm dreading the day we have to do the skunk bath.  What is your 'special cocktail' recipe?
There is aproduct called "knock-out" that is supposed to get the skunk smell out.  We have a bottle of it on standby now that we live in the country!!
