Please help!  Ollie is 7 months old now. Since we got him home he has never had stomach issues. Now this morning he woke us up whining at around 4 AM.  Dh took him outside and Ollie had a bout of diarrhea. He slept fine after that for about 2 hours then again woke up and same thing. Then at around 8:30 he threw up inside the house what looked like loose stools with pieces of some kind of grass or reed in it (sorry to sound gross) and then another bout of diarrhea. I have no experience whatsoever with this. I searched this forum for answers but I don't know if I should rush him to the vet or wait and see.

Should I withhold food?

I have children's Peptobismol at home. Would that help? He was acting fine yesterday and was fine all day, I don't know what happened. Our yard doesn't have any toxic plants so I'm not really worried about that but he does chew on pine cones that fall from the neighbor's tree. I don't know if they are harmful.

I am completely inexperienced  so any insight would be much appreciated.

Another question I have is how do you clean up diarrhea from the lawn? Just wash it? I want to make sure that if there are parasites, they are gotten rid of.

Sorry about the gross-out post early in the morn. but I am very concerned about the poor baby.

Update: Ollie continues to have diarrhea and threw up again this afternoon. The vet said that it is hard to say exactly what is causing it.It could be colitis from eating something that irritated his stomach or a bacterial or a parasitic infection. His stool report will come back tomorrow. Meanwhile the vet gave him a shot to help with his nausea and diarrhea (but doesn't look like it has helped too much). He also got a 8 day supply of Metronidazole and a anti emetic. The worst part is that he is totally listless and has been sleepy all day. I just hope he is not dehydrated. The doctor has given him some prescription diet but I'm wondering whether that is ok to give because it has all kinds of things like corn and pork liver. I do wish he would recover soon. I am really worried about my little boy.

Thank you for your support and suggestions.

I wouldn't worry about parasites, it sounds like Ollie ingested something that's causing this. I would definitely take him to the vet, and try to bring in a stool specimen. If he continues to vomit and have diarrhea, you run the risk of his getting dehydrated, and i would want to know what it is before giving him any kind of OTC meds, especially in a puppy.

Use a hose with a spray attachment to clean up the grass. If he does have giardia, you will have to bleach the areas to get rid of it, but I don't think that's what you're dealing with here.

Let the vet take a look at him, and please keep us posted. I hope it's nothing serious and he's soon feeling fine.

Thank you Karen. I'm hoping that throwing up whatever was bothering has helped him. He seems comfortable for now. I won't take any chances though. One more bout and off to the vet we go. I'll keep you posted.

Sending love to Ollie and Ollie's mom. Please let us know the update.

Thank you for your good wishes Jennifer. I worry about my fur baby.  He is such a sweetheart. He was so uncomfortable this morning and whimpering that it worried me. He is usually such a happy little guy.

I will keep you updated for sure.

I hope Ollie feels better. One night Harper threw up 4 times within an hour and then was fine afterwards. We assume she ate something bad and got it out of her system. We were lucky we didn't have to go to the vet b/c it stopped, but it sounds like little Ollie will have to go if it continues.
Poor Ollie- there are so many things that can upset their stomach. When Chloe was a puppy she ate rabbit "droppings' and before we caught on, she was very sick. The vet told us to bring her in case of she dehydrates, the stools were bad enough but when she came in she would vomit everytime she tried to drink water. I hope he's ok soon!!
I would add a little lemon to his water so maybe that will calm his tummy and maybe feed him canned pumpkin. Poor Ollie get well soon.
Get well soon, little Ollie!
He threw up again but there was not much to bring up. He is also very lethargic. I hope he'll be better soon.We are all so worried. Especially my 10 year old. We have his appointment in 3 hours. They also asked me to bring in his stool sample. Will let you know how it goes.
Bring him as soon as you can... even just to ease YOUR mind.... Is there a chance he ate a sock or anything like that....Not to scare you , but just to share your worries... Tori had a similar experience... she had gotten a hold of pork strips from the chinese restaurant that were thrown in the garbage.  I really didn't think too much of it as "she's a dog"...never knowing the harm PORK could do... she seemed fine, then had diarrhea, threw up, only like 1x a day... by the 3rd day she vomited with some blood streaks...we brought her immediately then to the ER vet.   she was hospitalized for a day and then kept at the vet for another day... I DO know the worry you are feeling!  Sending {{{HUGS}}} and good wishes.  I will be watching.  Have you tried giving some canned pumpkin?  Just maybe a bit on the tip of a spoon to see how he takes to it.. it calms the stomach... I stock up on this - it's like gold over here.  Also try giving ice to keep him hydrated.
Anxious to hear how Ollie is doing. Sorry he is so sick.

I hope Ollie is feeling better.

Waiting to hear what the vet said.
