Since having Brody home I've noticed he is scared of EVERYTHING!
A few things he's reacted to...
Plastic grocery bags. We were walking out to potty and our neighbors were coming home with groceries and they had a bunch of bags sitting in front of their door and he FREAKED out. He would not walk any further!
Any vehicle that is running, or not in the spot its supposed to be. We live in a complex and if there is a car in the handicap spot (which is right in front of the breezeway out to the potty spot) he will stop dead in his tracks.
Any and all pieces of furniture in the house excluding our bed and the couch. The tv stand, tables, cd/dvd towers, book case, etc...afraid of them all! If a toy rolls under one, or even too close to one he won't go get it. If its just far enough away he does this "stalking" type of walk...really slow and picks up the toy softly and RUNS away as fast as he can.
Shayna and Boomer fear nothing. Mariner's only fear is he is very much afraid of aggressive dogs, even those he knows. Part of this is due to his vision problems.
When his cousin Bubba, a shepherd mix comes over Mariner always tries to be in a different room than Bubba. Mariner has gotten much better, he used to in the doggy bed and curl up not coming out until after Bubba had left.
Skateboards. But only the sound of them. She's fine sniffing one or having someone walk by with one or even ride by slowly. But if they go screaming by, she freaks. Olive is not a barker, but when it comes to skateboards she wants them as far away as possible.
Thunder and firecrackers are Rusty's greatest fears so storms are a bit of a problem. Celebrations where they use fireworks are a no-no. They are banned for use other than by licences for the householder but you get some idiot who let them off in neighbourhoods where there are dog and you can hear the dogs go off. Rusty will curl himself around our legs and quiver, we haven't been able to desensitise him because you cannot buy crackers of any kind or size in our state.
We did have high winds (left overs from Ike) one night and he looked a bit fearful, but our trainer told us not to try to calm them because then they sense they should be afraid. Instead, I pretended that it was great in the wind (must have looked like a maniac to the neighbours), and he calmed down and started playing with gusto, like always!
He's a change from our previous pet, she was afraid of everything, including cameras. Barney is the opposite, every time I get the camera out, he's ready. Unfortunately most of my shots of him lately are close-ups of his big black nose.
I can't think of anything our doodles are afraid of. Our honorary doodle Maggie (border collie/shepherd mix) on the other hand is afraid of loud noises. We got her from animal rescue after her fear period had already ended so whatever happened in her home life before that has scarred her for life. She plows through anything in her way when it thunders or when fireworks go off. Then she finds the furthest closet that is open and hides until it's over. The doodles just watch her do her thing.
Jordan has a mild (according to the trainer) fear of bigger dogs. I am still working on it with her.
Someday my hope is to take her to a doodle romp.
Payton fears fireworks.
Kali doesn't seem to like people with umbrellas. She gave some poor lady a rather annoyed bark and then placed my Fiance between her and the lady with the umbrella and refused to keep going until she was gone. Not sure why that weirded her out, she's never minded when I've had one. She also doesn't like boys with skateboards. When she was little we were on our way to puppy class and some boys on skateboards charged at us to scare her. I don't think I've ever been quite that angry before.
Cooper is a little afraid of bigger dogs, because a couple of months ago he was nearly attacked by two of my friends' large labs. No fault of his own, he was sitting quietly by our feet and the two bigger dogs came over to smell (or so we thought) and tried to attack. After that he has been a bit afraid of bigger dog encounters. Just last week we were going for our daily stroll and coming to the end of our street were two puppies (that we have seen walking before )laying in their yard. Both came rushing over very exciting and poor Coop was just petrified! I stood confidently and tried to soothe him saying "its ok its ok"- but my sweet little man couldnt help it and just wet himself from being so scared!
My Louie is fearless, he is not afraid of anything! Not the vacuum, not thunder, not loud noises, nothing that we have found! (and he is going to be six years old next month, so I think if he was, it would be obvious by now!) Although he is not afraid of anything, he really HATES boxers! He loves the little frou frou dogs, but can't stand boxers.
