Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey all,

We are in the throes of potty-training our little Fozzie Bear's sister doodle, Georgia. I have been hearing/reading that it is quite common for doodles not to tell you in the traditional way they need to go. Our Lab x Parker used to come stare at me and/or whine or bark if needed to get my attention. What do your doodles do?

Gavin rings the bells.  If we are alseep he will come to the side of the bed and shake so that his tags rattle. (Am I reading too much into this or is he mimicking the sounds of the bells - ok that is ridiculous right?). If we are slow responding to that, he will lick one of us.  If we are at a friends house he will go sit by the door.  He is very non-vocal. Because he always remains in the same room as us, if he up and leaves we know he needs out.
Beckett does have same thing if we don't get up fast enough..lol You can hear him give those bells a big wack!

When he was younger, Webster would hang out and stare at us.  Unfortunately, it took us several "oopses" to realize that he wasn't being extra affectionate - he needed to go outside.  Now he stands in front of us and sometimes woofs, or just gets annoyingly affectionate.

Charlotte paws or barks at the door.

Our Harley girl rings bells that we hung on the doorknob.  Didn't take long at all to train her to use these either .. Everytime we would take her to go out we'd have her touch the bells with her nose. If we are somewhere that doesn't have bells she will just keep coming to us and may let out a little bark
We trained with a bell.  We have a bell on on both the side and the front door (we actually go out the side door more).  We started ringing the bell each time it was time to go out while say, "need to go potty?"  It only took him a few days before he was ringing the bell to tell us he had to go out.  One time he even "rang" a hanger I had on my bedroom door to tell me he had to go out when I was in the room folding laundry.  Now he'll even hit the doorknob with his nose-bell or no bell- when he needs to go.  I'm not going to lie, that bell has been my best and worst nightmare at times.  Now he knows he goes out when he rings the bell, so sometimes he'll ring it over... and over... and over again, even if we've just come inside, but just a little too early for his taste.  But on the upside we had no poo accidents in the house while training and only a couple of weeks until he was totally trained.  Now he even rings the bell if he feels sick and needs to throw up.  I was shocked the first time he did this!
Very easy...she gets up and walks out her doggie door and goes!!!!  tah dah
Dexter whines (but then again he whines when he's hungry, thirsty or needs to go out).  Kirby will come stare at us with his tail wagging very fast :)
