Yesterday was not a fun day at our house - I had some out patient surgery scheduled and I had to be there at 6:30 a.m., and without having anything to eat or drink since mid-night - which means mom didn't get her usual gallon of coffee = ugly morning.  DH had flown to NYC Monday a.m. and then back again that same night just so he could be here to take me.  Our normal schedule was way off and I wondered if Rooney would notice.  So off we left at 5:45 a.m. and we took Rooney in the puppy hauler with us.  The pre-puppy me would have wanted dh there for the surgery but now I didn't want Rooney home that long alone so I had dh walk me into the surgery clinic with me and just leave me there.  Lol.  So when I was all done around 10:00 dh and Rooney show up to take a very groggy momma back home.  Big ol bandage wrapped around my head, I wasn't feeling or looking to good.  I knew that I would be laying around for the better part of a few days and was a little bit worried that Rooney in his puppy exuberance might jump on or into me, well I could not believe what my little 8 month old did.  Of course I am looking like the bride of frankenstien right now but do dogs notice that?  Or could he smell the medicine?  Or is he just that clued into my behavior?  Because my little man came and layed very gently on me, softly licking my hand.  He stayed on the couch with me almost all day, sometimes by my feet but always touching some part of my body.  DH had a difficult time getting Rooney to go outside and potty - he didn't want to leave my side.  I know that dogs are very perceptive but at 8 months?  Wow - I was blown away.

Absolutely they are that perceptive. What a good boy Rooney is! Sure hope you have a quick recovery and are feeling better soon. The power of love from our dogs never ceases to amaze me.

I bet that was a great comfort to you. Hope you are on the mend soon Jane, with your little nurse that should help things along.

Jane...hope you are feeling better!  Rua is so thankful Rooney is such a good caregiver!  That way she'll have a DH who will be taking good care of her!   Rooney looks quite comfortable!
Jane, I hope you feel better soon! Rooney is such a good boy, he really is. I am always surprised at how intuitive and loving dogs can be, it's truly amazing.

It amazes me, too, how incredibly intuitive and caring these doods are.

                                 PLEASE GET WELL SOON! :)

Awwww, what a sweetheart Rooney is.  I think he definitely knew you were down and out and he wanted to be there with you, watching over you.  How sweet.  I really hope you are OK and wish you a speedy recovery.

He really is just the sweetest dog a person could ever hope to have!  I'm so lucky that he chose me to love.  I am on the mend slowly - feeling better every day - even went to the dog park for a little bit yesterday.  I should be back to normal (when was I ever normal?) soon.  Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
How was Rooney at the dog park?  DId he just stay with you, or did he enjoy a little play time with the other dogs.  Harpo has also been sick, and he stays right at my side (even when I take out his meds).  Hope you are well soon and can enjoy taking Rooney for some little romps.

Jane,

I sure hope that you are feeling better.  I would have to agree that dogs sure seem to switch on the caretaker when they know we are down and out.  I hope that Rooney is full of all sorts of energy soon only meaning that you are better!  Take care!

AWWW Jane, I missed this post, sorry, hope all is on the mend. Look at the sweet Rooney Doodle, what a good boy.
