It is ironic that Frannie just posted the discussion about her Kindle, because I am currently trying to decide between the Nook and Kindle. For all of you owners, what do you like, and dislike about your choice? And a totally different question... can you browse other things like facebook, gmail, etc. on the wifi models? Thanks in advance!

UPDATE

We chose to buy the kindle 3, with 3g. It is AMAZING! I can't believe how much like a book the screen is. Also, the internet is way amazing. I can go to Google images, Facebook, doodlekisses, any of the sites that I assumed I wouldn't be able to. Of course, it's in black and white but it's still cool. I don't really plan to do any browsing beyond e-mail and looking up numbers or addresses but it's nice to know that it works so well! It is WAY easy to put the pdfs I already own onto it. I just plug it into my computer and copy it into the folder. Tada! I am so excited to continue reading. Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

Not only can you dim the screen but you can change the background. It doesn't seem like reading on my laptop to me.
An E reader was the last reason I bought my iPad, but it is one of my favorites!
Hey Camilla- I'm responsing to an older post but...I am currently having the same pondering between what to get-so I was wondering did you get the Kindle or Nook?? I've been book crazed lately and ran out of storage in a way and would love to cary that with instead of a big hardcover book. Just curious and how do you like it?
We ended up getting a kindle. Then, we got a second so we could each have one. We really love them. I think they are much better than the nook as far as the design and screen. BUT, the Nook allows you to rent library books, which is an AWESOME feature. If you are willing to buy all of your books, I say Kindle. If you want to use library books, Nook. :-)
Thanks Camilla! Now the search is on for the best price! My husband keeps telling me to get one but I always say no but my birthday is coming this summer....
I just read that Kindle is going to be able to "lend" library books soon. And you now can lend books to friends for up to 2 weeks.  I have a Kindle and love it, can't wait to get books from the library too!! I really would love an iPad too. But not in the budget :)
I also was trying to decide between the Nook and Kindle when my husband got me an iPad.  I have the books I want to read on my upcoming trip to the East Coast loaded on the iPad and I put on all the photos I want to share with family on the East Coast.  I can also access e-mail, but I haven't explored any other features.  The iPad works fine for me.
i bought a Motorola xoom, since my son is an Android app programmer. I sold my Kindle because I think it will be fine for books and I can download from different sources this way.
WOW nice hubby!!! Just forget the pondering and go for the gusto! Just kidding...I hope you enjoy your ipad and your trip!!!
My DDs gave me a Kindle 3 for my birthday just last week.  I really like it the fact it is not back-lit since I spend all day staring at a computer screen.
Yeah, I love that it is easy on the eyes too. My DK usage puts enough strain on my eyes! Just barely got one for my sister, for her 16th b-day. She is a bookworm and she loves it. Yay for technology I say. :-)
