How many people have taken their pups to training school? There's one called McCann's around here that has a very good reputation, but it is $199 plus tax for a four week training session, 1 1/2 lessons each time. I want a good pup, but that's a lot of money!
I have taken my first doodle for one class and the cost was $75 for a 6 weeks class. I honestly don't know much about costs, but I thought $75 was fair. It was also a great trainer in my area. I am going to try and see if I can get back to some classes. My schedule is so rough...but I'm going to try!!
I have a friend that used Petsmart as well - I was going to use them, but I found something more local. She has the most well behaved choc lab I have ever met!!
Are you in the Niagara area? That does sound a lot. We payed $175 for nine weeks and we love our trainer. She does agility as well, and works with local police dogs and sniffer dogs. She's committed to her training and her cost includes any extra work that needs to be done.
No - I'm in Cambridge, Ontario. It sounded like a lot to me too. I don't want to undertrain the dog - he's going to be with us a long time, and I want him to be the best dog he can be.
That is less than what I paid for Jordan's advanced training. It is so money well spent.
I did her Puppy and Inter. at Petsmart for 100 for 6weeks. I am lucky because the trainers at our Petsmart are very good. I really checked out all the trainers in my area. I am still looking for someone to help me with some other fear issues Jordan has. I need a Behaviorist. Any one on here knows of a good one in Western Washington let me know.
We have an Obedience Training Club in the area. I think puppy class was $60 for 6 weeks; manners class was $60 for 6 weeks; beginner obedience was $70 for 8 weeks. After beginner obedience, I joined the club for $32 (normally $65 per year, but I joined in the middle of the year), and now I can go to as many classes as I want. We start novice obedience in a couple of weeks, but they also have flyball, agility, rally, and other advanced classes. So I can just pay $65 per year from here on out and go to as many classes as I want. Seeing some of the prices listed here, this sounds like a pretty good deal.
We used a local dog trainer who did group sessions in our local park. It was $60 for 5 weeks-but she did a discounted rate as a donation to the park. It sounds as though $199 is a bit much. My personal opinion is that 1 1/2 long sessions are too long. Ours was an hour each and Trooper seemed to be overstimulated that long with other dogs (he was only mad b/c they were not allowed to play with each other!)l I feel a 45 minute session would have been fine. I do recommend a class b/c the trainer can observe you and give you feedback right then. Just make sure you are willing to put in the time between classes to practice the lessons at home. Just shop around your area to see other prices and start asking other ppl for suggestions.
