My Cowardly Lion
Well Oliver , my great protector showed his true colors yesterday. We were out on the driveway of our house, just practicing some sit and stays, when one of the neighbors granchildren, saw Oliver and came down the street on a scooter, not a motorized one, just a regular little scooter. Oliver knows this child, and the child has 2 goldensdoodles of his own. I don't know what triggered it, it was too fast, for me to remember, but the next thing I knew, Oliver spied the scooter, yelped and made a beeline for the garage to go into the house. The problem with that was that I was holding on to his leash. I went flying to the ground, and Oliver was by the door whining to get in the house. When I was able to get myself up, I see him come out of the garage, and go to the kid for belly rubs and petting....I guess he was scared of the scooter, but I ended up having to go to the orthopaedist the next morning, I thought I had a broken hand. It is swolllen and black and blue, with the exception of 2 fingers. I take aspirin everyday, so it made the under the skin bleeding even worse, which made the swelling worse. so now I am in compression bandage for 3 days, and the Dr. said to keep the hand elevated, ice, and use those fingers, so that is why I am typing, slowly but typing. Of course it had to be my right hand to make things worse!!...Just another doodle happening, but let me tell you we are going to do some serious training when I get out of this mess...he has never bolted like that before, or pulled like that, but I guess it is my fault too that we didn't work on that end of training. I hope I am not too late to start, he just turned two. But a 72 lb dog doing that is not fun, that is for sure....

OUCH-The said thing is he went back for some lovin from the child and you had to get hurt! Myla is pretty jumpy inside and out of the house. That sounds like it hurts a lot-get better and Happy Easter-now you don't have to cook????

He did come over to me, and stare at me, probably wondered what I was doing on the ground, lol, he gave me his paw and then went to the kid for pats and belly rubs...

I don't have to cook today because we are going out to a restaurant, it is our 40th wedding anniversary today, lol, our kids thru a surprize party for us yesterday, and since we do not celebrate Easter, we decided to go out to eat. If you are cooking, or just going somewhere to celebrate the holiday, please enjoy, and eat some of those great easter foods for me, lol...

Thanks, Laurie, I appreciate the kind words. My hand is just the most awful colors, lol...still sore, but I did take the ace off it, and I am using my fingers, lol...But today I put the ace back on, it feels better with it on. We are leaving for New York/New Jersey tomorrow, and will see my son, so I will see what is happening with your writings....Take care and thanks again....See you all in about 12 days,,,

Well my cowardly lion just conquered a fear today!! She went through the back door, it was open!! I treated her for conquering it and praised her like crazy!! Try that with your guy and scooters! I found that this helped coco with her fears of scooters, bikes, and now back doors!!

Wtg, Coco...that is great...Unfortunately, the neighbors kids left, and there are no scooters around to socialize with....

Oh no! Maybe eventually! I use a gentle leader so she can't pull me down. It's great and it doesn't hurt her!!

Oh No Cheryl, so sorry you are hurt. Sounds like you didn't have enough time to even think whether or not to drop the leash. I think our instincts tell us to hold on so they don't bolt away from us. Glad it's not broken as it will heal quicker that way but more painful is the downside.
2 Summers ago I tripped over Murphy when he ran right in front of me while we were jogging and did a face plant on hard black shell filled asphalt in florida. I was about 1/2 mile from home and had a busted nose and bridge of my nose where my sunglasses cut me and a big swollen top lip. I was grateful that I still had my front teeth and that my nose wasn't broken. But I never saw so much blood or hurt so bad. I couldn't be mad a Murphy but I can tell you we worked on heel to the point of ad nauseam. Luckliy he was only about 50 pds at the time.
I hope you heal quickly and feel better soon.
