Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

A member of our group starts a discussion with this sentence: "My heart is heavy and I am crying." She goes on to tell us about an 18-mo-old doodle she bred who escaped from an electric fence and was hit by a car and killed. In her grief, she came to us for support and comfort. And two fellow members of "Doodle Kisses", people who supposedly love doodles and want to connect with one another, share questions, knowledge, ideas, laughs, tears, etc., responded to this grieving fellow member's post by giving it "1 star" ratings. This was very helpful in contributing to her pain.
I am absolutely sickened by this. Oh, did somebody's widdle feelings get hurt because there was a warning in there about invisible fences, and they have one, so they were insulted? Grow up! A BELOVED DOG IS DEAD!
I have news for you two...when someone posts a warning about something, whether it is a collar, a food, a toy, whatever, they are trying to do you a favor and protect your beloved dog. No one has anything to gain by telling others about something that happened to a dog...they are trying to help YOU. You have every right to ignore any advice you read...I do so often. But to anonymously "slam" a kind woman who has turned to us in grief...you should be ashamed of yourselves. I pity your poor doodles that they have to live with people so devoid of compassion.

I too did not know how the ratings worked. I had no idea that people who did not comment in a discussion could rate it just by viewing the discussion an adding their rating. It is cowardly to rate a discussion so low and not leave a comment as to why=(
I just read both this post and the one that it refers to. I left my comments on the other post. I usually do not rate the posts as I do not think that the ratings are meaningful. I think that the ratings are only each persons interest in the post.

Unfortunately it appears to me that the other post boiled down to a BASHING of electric fences and people who have them. I don't think that that was being fair.

For some of us the electric fence has given us and our dogs a better quality of living.
Thanks for your comments; it came as a surprise to me that apparently others with electric fences viewed the original discussion as you do. Maybe it was the title. I read the first sentence and viewed it as an outpouring of grief and a cautionary tale. It makes me sad that people feel personally threatened when others disagree with their choices. An example that comes to my mind is when I read on so many forums about how terrible and dangerous rawhide is for your dog. I give Jack rawhide, as I have given it to all my dogs, and I am not offended when others say it's a bad thing to do. On the contrary, I was glad for the warnings about formaldehyde in the foreign made rawhide, and now make sure to only buy American. It works for me. I just don't understand someone becoming angry or defensive about a differing opinion, especially when it is being made in a spirit of trying to help or inform, without benefit to oneself. The ratings in the other case were mean-spirited & hurtful, and that is why I started this discussion. I appreciate your viewpoint, I am sure some of us have learned some lessons through this unfortunate episode.
One thing I learned was that even though it got a little "heated" I ended up making some new friends and getting through it. Just goes to show in the end...we were all understanding and saw each others side - must be the "doodles" in us.

After all, the majority of us are women - and BOY we can be emotional - LOL!!!
You can say that again- LOL! I'm grateful for my new friends here and looking forward to moving on to some new, more pleasant topics.
