Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have my thoughts and I'd like to know what others think. Why did you get a goldendoodle or a labradoodle? I'm curious. Thanks.

For us - we had always wanted a golden retriever, but we live out in the country with no fences. Then we heard about our Teddy, who is a mini golden doodle (at 44 pounds not so mini!). He had many of the looks and characteristics - and was smaller and didn't shed so could be an indoor dog - so this was the perfect solution. I am new to doodle ownership and doodlekisses - but my sense after spending a lot of time on this website is that labradoodles are far more prevalent - and I think (may be wrong) that labradoodles have been around longer as a breed. Now having seen so many labradoodles on this site, I want one to keep Teddy company - but my husband doesn't agree! One is enough for him. We absolutely love Teddy! I personally think you can't go wrong with either one!
hehe that's funny because I never even HEARD of labradoodles until this site :) I've always only seen goldendoodles :)
That's funny that your mini is 44#. My standard goldendoodle is 44# too. Anyway - Isn't it the perfect size dog? Just love her and your Teddy is adorable!
I agree you sure couldn't go wrong. My husband had been bugging me for a hunting buddy Lab for years. Well, I had never had a large dog, so was not keen on the shedding of a large dog in my house (I am kind of a clean freak--as my kids would say). I had never heard of a Labradoodle until we saw one one day, and after a couple more years of my husband bugging me we got Giada!! Glad we did too, her and I have a ball together!!! Never even thought of a Goldendoodle.
Does you husband hunt with Giada?
We always wanted a dog BUT i have allergies. A neighbor of my sister in law has both a a goldendoodle and a labradoodle. The goldendoodles breeder just had a new litter and there was a puppy available. So we doodle sat the goldendoodle for a day to see how I would react to him. I did not have any allergic reactions so we decided to adopt Boomer. That was the start. If it had been the labradoodle - we may have had labradoodles.

We love them. We didn't do any research about them, we kind of just fell into it.
We had a Golden Retriever for 15 years. After she passed we weren't sure we wanted another dog. My wife had been looking at golden and labradoodles on line and we thought we would check them out. I think we went goldendoodle since we knew the GR breed. After visiting breeders in WV and PA, we discovered we had a breeder about 3o miles south of us. We went to look one saturday and came home with Gus that evening.
We got our mini goldendoodle because we had a golden retriever that passed away a year ago. I love goldens but we wanted something smaller this time.
Our first doodle siting was a golden doodle, so that is what I did all my homework on. Didn't find out about labradoodles until later.
I hadn't heard of either until Clark told me about them 2 Novembers ago. He told me to research the labradoodle (he didn't know of the GD) and while researching that I found out about GDs, Australian labradoodles, and aussiedoodles. I chose the LD because I preferred their look the best.
I know people that have both kinds. I have a labradoodle because I heard of them first, they have been around since the 80's, not here that long but started in Australia. I searched for breeders in the area, as I didn't want it shipped. I found a breeder about 3 1/2 hrs from me who does health testing and I was able to go see a litter she had before my pups litter, and meet the parents to see their temperment. That was an important factor for me.

My pup is just over 4 mos now but I really think I will be getting another one next summer. I'm open to either a GD or LD at that time. If I get another LD, it would be from the breeder I got Sadie from.
I have a LD. I love Labs and grew up with a Stand. Poodle. Perfect mix in my eyes. I love the Shaggy look of F-1s.
I would have a GD. Love them too.
I am not so sure about the Wiemardoodle. Wiemriener's are a high energy dog, I could not imagine having another high energy dog.Our Dog Payton (Pointer mix) is still a spaz and he is 10 now. They are cute, the one I saw looked like a black F-1 LD.
