Malley only wants to go to the bathroom in our backyard.  Doesn't matter how long the walk is - she waits till she is home.  Dog parks - every other dog is marking their turf - not her.  She waits till she gets home.  Daycare - she waits till she gets home, unless she is busting.    It is not a problem except for the one time we boarded her - I had to give her apple cider vinegar for three days to get her urination regular again.  Is this a doodle thing?  Does this happen to anyone else?

Have a DS like that. Maybe it's a male thing?

ha ha ha ha - I have a human husband that is the same way!

It may be a female thing.  I have 2 males who will pee or poop anywhere.  Lily is my only female and prefers her own yard also.  Not only does it have to be her yard but the "perfect" spot.  She takes forever to pick this spot mainly because she is easily distracted and VERY nosey.  The only time she is quick with her business is when it's raining or storming.

Of the 3 doodles I know well, one will only go potty in his yard no matter how long the hike or walk, one will only pee outside of her yard but not poop anywhere but her yard, and one would do both anywhere, anytime, any surface.  Last one was traveling around the country with us for his first 8 months and never knew from one nap to the next where he'd be taken out to potty and got trained that way. Hard to do that if you are always at one location I'd think.
Marley is also a snob and only goes to the bathroom in our yard.  I can count the number of times I've used poop bags while walking her on 1 hand.  I can only think of a couple of instances when she ever peed while out on a walk.
Mine are just like that, we took them on vacation with us last summer.  We rented a house that allowed dogs but the dogs wouldn't potty.  Not on the 8 hour drive to the house in the mountains and not until they finally could not hold it one second longer and then one of them wet the dog bed.  I guess it was the only thing that smelled like home?  We ended up just taking them on long, long walks in the woods and they finally decided it was ok to go in the woods.
