I don't know about all of you, but I am ready for a lighthearted discussion.  Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday and I would like to hear a funny story or stories about your mother. I have to be careful here because my DD's are on DK, but luckily my mother is not :) My mother will be 85 this May and she has a great sense of humor. She laughs at all my jokes, even when they are about her. I guess growing up she always used to say if someone teases you, they like you, so going by that theory I love her and my family loves me.

My mom is not a big animal person and does not understand why people want pets. She does, however, love Fudge and Vern. Once when my kids were little, I called and told her we were getting a cat. Right away she said if we got a cat then she wasn't coming to stay at our house ever again and when I told that to my DH, we started laughing and yelled to the kids to get dressed, and to please hurry because we were on our way to get a cat that day. She was still on the phone and that cracked her up.

A couple of years ago, she announced to us that she was coming out to our house for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  According to her, her financial guy said she can afford to come for both holidays.  We told her we thought she should be thinking about getting a new financial guy and that sent her into waves of laughter.

When President Obama was newly elected, she could not stop talking about his possible Health Care plan. My mom still has all her marbles and can get pretty wound up about a subject and kept going on and on about his plan and said it could mean euthanasia for the elderly.   The last time she brought it up, one of us asked her if she knew how to get someone on the list and did it help if more than one family member submitted a name and then we all laughed.

She is beyond competitive and at 85, is in a Wii bowling league and plays every week. If you beat her, you have to keep playing until she beats you. I got her a Mother's Day card this year that says something like They say the Nut doesn't fall to far from the tree and then you open it and it says that scares the hell out of me. Truer words were never spoken. Both my mom and I like to laugh and I see my future before my eyes when I look at her. I think laughter is a pretty great thing to pass on to your children. So, Happy Mother's Day to my funny mom and I would love to hear some funny stories about what makes your mom special.

My mom is in her early 70's (my dad is 10 years older).  She and my dad divorced when I was 18 which was about 18 years past when they should have divorced.  That said, my mom is Italian with a very big heart so when we ended up here in MN 2.5 years ago, she and my dad moved back in together when they followed us here and bought a gorgeous condo 1.5 miles from our house ( I am an only child with the only grandchildren hence the draw to MN).  To say it has been interesting for them to be together again is an understatement and quite hilarious in and of itself but my mom has a knack for doing crazy things and my dad is a lot of things, but funny he is not.

A few weeks ago, I was walking Phoebe and was about 35 minutes from my house when my cellphone rang.  When I answered it, my mom opened the conversation with " Don't worry, we are both okay."  I immediately turned around and started to head home ( knowing those words were the kiss of death), picking up the pace with my questioning doodle running at my side.  Apparently, they had been out walking--we live in a suburban area with tons of paved trails and sidewalks--but, in an effort to save perhaps 5 steps, my mom decided to 'cut through the yellow caution tape and take a short cut through some trees.'  What she did not know was that the tape was there because the sloping area was filled with muck and mire and a ton of powdered construction cement residue.  She slipped first and went sliding down the hill screaming 'oh god, oh god' and my dad (not a funny person but a gentleman to a fault) did what he felt he had to...he followed her to 'save' her.  After they stopped sliding and after my mom cleaned her hands as best she could with the 4000 ever-present napkins my dad carries in his pockets, she decided to call me to tell me of their exploits.  I immediately offered to go to get them but my mom--an obsessive clean freak...talk about an apple and a tree!--told me she would not get in my car (plus it would have taken me close to a half hour to get them as I was so far from my house).  Instead, she and my dad pulled the muck and mire off as best they could and then went home.  My mom put my dad in their storage unit in the condo's garage where he stripped, she threw out his clothes then went into their condo, throwing towels she had in her car on the floor so as not to get it overly dirty, got my dad clothes BUT she stopped to shower herself first and change.  When I asked my dad how he felt about hanging out in his locked personal storage unit--until my mom showered he said he would never have expected her to do anything but.  Of course, neither could I but stil!

Jiggling with giggles and  wiping the tears.  I've got the visual.   LMAO
