We took Ollie to the beach this past weekend. After that while doing his daily brushing I noticed two little bumps on Ollie's chest. My dh noticed them when he was rubbing Ollie's chest too. He asked me what they were and I confidently answered...Nipples...yes dh, boy dogs have them too. Then he got a bath a couple of days ago and during his post bath brushing I noticed they were a bit larger. I figured that maybe his hormones are raging and some strange changes may happen in his body (he is 8 months old) so I decided to wait.

Today they were huge....more like huge skin tags!! I was alarmed. Ollie hates getting his chest and tummy brushed so with some bribing I got him to lay down on his back and carefully inspected the area.

Now is the part when I feel like a complete fool...

His "nipples" were not nipples at all but 2 mats in  very strategic locations!! Dh and I laughed our heads off (dh with relief that Ollie was not turning into a girly doodle and me with relief that it was not some sinister hormonal ailment). He has never had mats before and I brush him every day. I guess the sea water and the bath made them get bigger. I painstakingly brushed one out. I will get the second one out tonight. :-)

Is this a start of the dreaded matting phase? Anything I can do to prevent it? Thank you.

I was very concerned as I was reading this because I was either wondering why Jack doesn't have nipples, or something is seriously wrong with your dog..

LMBO.. that is funny, It was recommended on this site to use Cowboy magic, I got it online it works pretty good at keep the tangles at bay.

Luca has some symmetrical, barely raised spots which are rudimentary nipples I think.
Yes, male dogs have "nipples" just like male people.
LMAO!   Funny story!
Also ROFL! This was much needed on my part thank you for sharing.  Daily brushing and maybe going to a shorter coat length.  Wish I could help more.
I love this.  How funny.
Too funny!
Hilarious
Oh this was good!  I needed a good laugh tonight. : o ))
LOL!! OMD! That is hilarious!!!  If you are not already a member I recommend you join us over at the Grooming Group!! There is lots of good info there about all the stages that our doodle's coats go through!! Good luck!!
That is too funny!!
So glad the story ended the way it did...I'm reading, all concerned and then-I'm laughing...hard!!! Very funny, Myla has terrible matting on her arm pits and tummy, when the groomer can't get them she says try at home...uugghh-that's why I brought her here! So I'm wondering what the BEST detangeler is also since she doesn't let me brush those areas!
