OMD no one told me how quickly I would fall head over heals for my new puppy. We love him like crazy :) He did amazing on the hour car ride home- slept half the time, whined a tiny bit, gazed happily out the window. Once getting home he went potty outside, then explored the house. Within fifteen minutes we gave him some food, and he ate about half. Played a little, back outside, potty again (WAHOO), repeat.
He is already going up and down stairs (three steps off our porch)- should I be worried? He seems so young to do that. He was hesitant when we went outside, and I was about to pick him up to carry him down but, he did it on his own.
He hates his leash- likes to bite it constantly when outside. I just take it out of his mouth and redirect him. Hopefully he will start to ignore it soon
He loves to be around people, especially my 5 yr old- if Jackson is out of Barkley's sight he whines for him.
Enough of that- here are a few pics. I'll be back for more if I get time to breathe :)
Completely sleeping on Jackson. "Mom, can you move him a bit, I want to get up." Ten minutes later... "Mooooooooooooooom, I need to get up"

Wow--what a cute pair--how wonderful for all of you--they are handsome boys--look at the size of the paws on that puppy--how big were his parents?
Barkley actually looks just like a 5 week old puppy I have here now--check out the picture--this guy is smaller then yours though!re--this guy is smaller then yours though!
Congratulations on your new puppy Barkley, he will be Jackson's friend for life. Just thinking of all the adventures these two will have makes me smile.
Alli,
Barkley is beautiful. He is gonna be as big as Murphy! He and Jackson make quite a pair.
Morning. As predicted it was a long night. Barkley fell asleep in his crate (in our bedroom- across from the bed) at 9pm so hubby and I decided to go to bed too. It was so nice for the first hour lol. 10pm hit and Barkley whined like no other. Loudly, like REALLY loudly so I did what I learned from here, got out of bed and set up a sleeping bag next to his crate. Stuck my fingers in the crate- he whined for two minutes more then moved as close to my fingers as possible, laid down so that my hand was on top of his back, and passed out. Eventually I crawled back to my bed- and then I moved back to the floor when the whining started again. Hope I didn't set myself up for a bad habit to break- but I couldn't let him whine like that his first night home- made me too sad. We were up with him at 10pm, 12am (maybe, hubby and I dont remember this one), 3am, and finally 5:30am. I decided to wake up for good at 5:30am and good thing I did because Barkley was ready to PLAY. His true personality is showing today- licking, kissing, nipping, chasing, toy playing, etc. It was hard for the first hour or so last night but not that bad. My recommendation is to get a LOT of sleep before hand, because once puppy gets home- good luck :) 5:30am is early for me- but it was nice having him all to myself while the rest of the family was sleeping. Barkley and I worked on sit, and played with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002I0O60 which I HIGHLY recommend.
Potty breaks- we had a designated spot picked out for him to pee- and guess what? He has gone there each and every time (except for one time in the house-whoops). He picked another place to poop where he has gone three times thus far. We just direct him there about 30 minutes after he eats. He does NOT like to be treated immediately following (or during) potty. Though, he does enjoy a treat when he comes back inside.
Any questions?
Happy Mother's Day and thank you again for the kind responses. More pics soon
Edited to add- its now 6:45am and Barkley is sound asleep again- I should be too, but my 5 yr old is now up :)
