I bought some software today called Portrait Professional - oh, my gosh, talk about a powerful program! Normally $89.95, it's on special for a limited time for $39.95. The program is very intuitive and allows you to choose if your model is a child, woman or man.
Here's an untouched RAW photo that I took of a friend a couple years ago, to demonstrate how it takes you step by step through each of the adjustments:
Now that I was happy with the touchup, I cropped the image and adjusted the levels, etc:
Click the image to enlarge. To zoom in even tighter, here's a tip: Hold down the CTRL key (Command key on a Mac) and then tap the "+" key to enlarge what's on your screen. Use the "-" key to zoom back.
From start to finish it only took me about 10 minutes to do this!

Linda, your friend is gonna looooooooooove you. What a great job, how complicated is it to use?
Heck, I might even let someone take my photo if I can use this to correct all my flaws! lol
Thanks, I'll do that.
I also use Portrait Pro for retouching portraits. I have not found a woman who disliked her image after it was reworked in Portrait professional! It shows the lady like "she wants to look" rather that what she actually looks like.
One problem with photographing women is that most women do not wear make-up daily that is optimum for photography. Photo oriented make-up is usually a bit heavier and more bold than street make-up. The Portrait Pro is a very easy program which helps make the transition from a nice image to an excellent image.
I use it less for men, although there is a capability to work on male portraits.

Nice work!
Hey Richard, are you a member of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals), by any chance? I joined it a recently. (In fact, I blogged about it here: http://labellgallery.com/2011/05/review-napp/)Their Photoshop User magazine is awesome. (That's where I learned about this software program.) I love reading it on the iPad because you can zoom in on the images and click the links. I'm such a nerd....
