Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

greetings, all! I am wondering if anyone's 'doodle has chronically loose stools. The vet has checked out 9-month-old Armistead and declares him fit; but unless he eats the Science diet prescribed by the vet, his stools are loose and difficult to bag on our neighborhood walks. The Science diet is full of undigestible fiber and is very expensive. Do other 'doodle owners have this problem? Thanks.

Also Carolyn the most common grains that dogs are allergic too are wheat and corn...Commercial food is full of both........Wheat turns into gluten and many dogs have Celiac disease symptoms....a serious allergy to wheat gluten....The main symptom being grumbly, bloated tummies and diarrehea but it also causes skin rashes and systemic yeast..Yeast is abundance is a very bad thing for a dog....cases chronic ear infections, rashes and digestive problems..Corn is a filler...It is meant to fill them up, but it does this temporarily and only makes them more ravenous due to corn's high sugar content....That's why peple will end up using so much more commercial food on a daily basis and go through it quickly...They are always tryng to satisfy their dogs hunger....Commercial food is designed that way for that reason....To sell more of it.... I always recommend Dr. Pitcairn's Guide to Natural Health for Cat's and Dogs for reading...It's a life saver if you happen to have a doodle with food and/or digestive issues....
Absolutely true Ann....
We had thought Vegas was allergic to chicken, so we switched him to an all beef food that he started doing well on (Solid Gold -Millenia) then regressed. We switched to Merrick-Wilderness and after three weeks he poops one solid log 4 X/day!! We spinkle probiotics and enzymes with each meal. However, the Merrick formula has probiotics in it, so I think I will ween him off of the supplement once it starts to run out. He gets all poultry free treats and bully sticks. He likes the Natural Balance biscuits, zukes salmon bites and Merrick beef squares. I think he eats better than I do!

I really think it has something to do with just trying to settle their stomachs. During the loose stool days, I would give him a little pepto while we were switching to the Merrick food. I think it helped a lot. If I see he poo start to get soft, I feed him a frozen pumpkin cube and it usually does the trick.
My doodle has had that problem too. I have him on Wellness and he seems to be doing better. I have found that some treats will cause the problem too. I watch his diet and he does fine. Good luck and at least with the cold weather ahead it will be easier to pick up the poops.
Yes!...Even canned pumpkin works!.....Also I find that a little Flagil ( Metronidazole ) will clear it up in 24 hours.....I tried the Merrick Wilderness.....It was hard on Blake's back end....but I'm glad that it's working for Vegas....By the way I also always say that Blake eats better than I do....lol....He dines on homemade chicken meat loaf and I'm in front of the tube with a frozen Stouffers meal...lol...He also has health insurance while I do not at the moment!...lol...
We are just getting over this problem, and what a problem it is. Ask my spare bedroom floor! We tried every high quality, natural, holistic food on the market. We switched our dog to Eukanuba Naturally Wild Venison and Potato. We did this instantly no 50-50, because what was the worst that could happen loose stools, we had that big time...Next day our dood had solid stools and has ever since. It was like a gift from god. Good luck
That's great news!...It's the spuds that do the trick...: )
Corey & Kelli, do some checking on your Eukanuba product. They are part of the recalls of 2 years ago and the melmine posioning lawsuit that is on-going now. Just a heads up.
We had this problem too until we switched to gain free kibble.
Which Kibble Tam?...
Innova
Of course!
