Matts under chin

Is there any product I can buy to rub into the matts under Toby's chin that would make them easier to comb through?  It's just getting to be a mass of knots under there and I don't know what to do about it.  He doesn't enjoy my attempts to comb out under his chin or dematt it at all.  He's pretty tolerant anywhere else, but not there.

I bought a metal comb this week, so I need to sit down and get at it.  I have Cowboy Magic coming in the mail.  :)  I'm with you though - if I can't get through them, I just cut them off.  Toby's got PLENTY of hair.
