Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have a happy annoucement. We are about to be the new parents of a male baby goldendoodle. This all happened within the last 5 hours and we just got the phone call. This is a rescue situation, very sad and our new little guy is only 7 weeks old, too young to be away from his mommy. I need all the advice I can get. I'll leave very early Monday for the drive to Atlanta to adopt Crosby, Stills or Nash. I must not put Rooney in harms way till I find out the medical condition of our new puppy. Rooney will go to our dog sitters till I get our new little guy and get him to our vet. Please please please say a prayer that our new little guy is healthy. I'll be in Atlanta (thank goodness my daughter lives there) Monday and Tuesday evening. Wednesday and Thursday I have to stop in Ocala and I am looking for a good vet there to start the check up. I had already planned to be there for a nephews graduation and I can't get out of that now. Does anyone know of a good vet in the Ocala area? This has happended so fast, yes we were on the wait list for a puppy from our breeder but my heart goes out to these puppies - they need us more than we need them. Our paws are crossed. I'm scared, excited and nervous.

Jane, they're adorable.
From what I understand, the puppies were seized from a breeder who had too many dogs. Adopt a Golden of Atlanta has the mother too, as well as another litter of seven 14 week old pups. The CSN litter had 5 puppies, all male. Joplin is one of the brothers, too.
They are "reverse" F1Bs...usually, an F1B is a goldendoodle bred back to a poodle. In this case, the GD was bred back to a Golden Retriever.
You will be fine. This puppy has dozens if not hundreds of virtual aunts (and a few uncles) who will all be here to help with whatever comes up.
Bless you for giving one of these sweet babies a home!
The rescue will have copies of all the vetting that's been done. My guess would be the pups have had fecals and been checked/treated for parasites, but do ask lots of questions if the info isn't given.
Congratulations Jane! And thank you for choosing rescue. This rescue organization is pretty reputable and I am sure the pups have been vetted as much as they could be for their age. I am relatively certain the pup will need to have a second round of puppy shots after being adopted so I would not expose the pup to other dogs (outside of your own) or any public places where other dogs lurk until you get those shots. Especially since Parvo is so prevalent down south and a susceptible puppy could easily pick it up just about anywhere.
I would also worm again even if the pup was already wormed. Experience has taught us that many times it takes a few rounds of meds to completely rid pups of intestinal parasites. Best if you go directly to the vet just to be safe.
Are they spaying and/or neutering before they adopt them out to the public? They seem rather young for that surgery.
First, Congratulations to you and what a wonderful thing you are doing. The picture is adorable and I'm sure whichever pup comes home with you, is one lucky pup! Maybe your daughter could make an appointment with her vet and you could have Stuart/Crosbey checked out right after you get him. Just a thought.... All the best to you and your "doodley" family, we will be checking in to see how you are doing . . .
So happy for you & Rooney! I am sure he will be a great big brother. I love to hear rescue success stories. Can't wait to see more pics & hear all about the adventures.
