Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Just a quick update to say that having our second doodle Lucy has been an absolute joy!
We were a bit concerned about the usual things; will they get on, will it be tons more work, will she settle, will he be upset.
BUT, its been great. They play together until they are worn out and then sleep (bliss!). They walk together and play chase. Dylan (2 years) is so patient and its so lovely to see him being so careful not to tread on her while she plays around underneath him. He'll tell her off when she needs it and she'll nip his ears if she thinks he's getting too bossy. She's not had any 'accidents' in the house at all and because they play together, we don't have a bored doodle at the end of the day wanting long play sessions. We do take time to spend with them of course but they make their own fun too.
The only slight issue might be around their feeding as she wants everything he has. I have to feed him in another room and take the bowl away or she's straight in there.
So for anyone toying with the idea of adding to their doodle family, if the situation is right for you but you're unsure, then I'll just say its been a delight for us and long may it last.
A picture attached of them at the end of a long day (I know, naughty to let them on the sofa but too cute)

That's great! They look so sweet together on the couch!
I've toyed with the idea of a second and maybe someday it'll happen. I was dog sitting for a friend earlier this year and found a great way to get the two dogs to each eat their OWN food in their OWN bowls in the same room!
I walked them and played with them until i knew they were good and hungry. Then i started the whole "ritual" of washing the bowls, pouring some kibble into each bowl, mixing in some other fun ingredient like yogurt or scrambled egg or wet food etc. Then i would leave the food on the counter (both were small dogs who couldn't reach) and wash the utensils, go to the bathroom and maybe do one other thing in the other room until they were salivating!!!! I'd have them both come to the kitchen and sit and then i'd drop down the bowls. By that time they were so desperate they each went to town on their food. It worked really well. I did this for 6 days straight. Granted it was a little time consuming but i bet after a while it'd become more routine and i could probably spend less time doing all the added stuff.
Just wanted to say thanks very much for the tip..we tried it and it works great!
They both gobble up their food and although little Lucy still has to check to see what Dylan may have left, its really working out well.
So thanks!
Thanks Sally, sounds like a great idea - we'll give that a go. At the moment, little Lucy just wants to share everything but hopefully it will all settle down expecially with your idea.
And sorry about that Lindsey :)
added another version of the picture because I think the first one came out tiny?
Yes, I do love it!
I'm so glad we went for it now..we did think long and hard but its worked out brilliantly. We've been taking loads of pictures and got a little bit of video yesterday of them carrying a stick between them. Lucy just wants to be like her big brother...too cute
After having Sasha for 8 months I realized she needed a doggie friend so I got Oliver and that was the best thing I ever done. They get along great and are best buds. I had feeding time issues as well, Oliver after eating his meal would want to eat Sasha's too. I had to stand in between them to prevent him from shoving his way thru and inhaling her food. I used this as training time. Of course Sasha is a very slow eater, so while she was eating Oliver and I would practice his sit and stay and other tricks, we did this twice a day at feeding time and now......... Oliver could care less that Sasha is eating - yeahhhhh something that finally worked for me :) It does take a bit more time to feed and make sure they both have taken care of their business in the back yard on work days but it is so well worth the extra time. I love having two doodles, I wish I had a bigger house and more property and of course more money because I would have more :)
Yes, its so funny how the littlest pup can seem to be so hungry!
Things are getting better now but Lucy still has to check Dylan's bowl to make sure he hasnt left anything. And when I give them biscuits, she seems to prefer to eat his so they end up having to swap. Good job Dylan is so patient!
