Did anyone on DK watch The People's Court today? I was baking cookies and had the TV on and could not believe the case. Some woman was suing the breeder where she got her Yorkie dog. She had a dog that was sick and invested a lot of money into trying to save that dog and the dog eventually died. When she decided to get another dog she bought the Yorkie from a breeder and after 9 months the new dog got sick. She said when she bought the dog, her DH was laid off and they had no money and she worked three jobs to pay for the dog. Anyway, the puppy got sick with some kind of liver disease and she contacted the breeder and returned the dog for a new puppy. She stated several time she could not have another sick dog. Now, here is where I would like some input. The breeder said he advised her to change foods (Karen??), but she wanted a refund and when he would not do that, she took another puppy. The breeder found another home for the exchanged dog (no charge) and while in court, read a testimonial from the new owner who loves the dog and has had no issues. Ok, happy ending for that puppy.

Well, TWO years later, the woman (who was suing the breeder) said her new dog (the one she got in the exchange and now two) developed liver disease and she wanted to return that dog too. Remember, she cannot have a sick dog again. (gag)  Because she could not stomach having another sick dog, she just gave the dog to a next door neighbor and the first this breeder heard about this dog being sick was when he got the summons about the court date.

The breeder only sells about two to four dogs a year and I do not know anything about the parents. My other question is...could something in the home be causing the liver problems or could food (as the breeder suggested)? The first dog seemed to have no further problems after she was re-homed. Personally, the woman made me sick. I wondered what would happen if one of her kids got sick or had some type of accident that required long term care.

The judge found in favor of the breeder, because she said there is nothing you can return TWO years later for a refund or an exchange. Plus, the judge was dumbfounded she wanted to return a two year old dog. On the way out of court, they interviewed the woman and the interviewer asked her if she was going to get another dog and she laughed and said, "I might. Do you know any good breeders?"

I am recapping from memory, so I did my best, but what do you think about this case??

Even without having seen the show, I'm 100% confident in my assessment - the woman is an idiot and has NO business being responsible for any other individual, two-footed or four!!
"Oh my goodness" is the only thing I can say.  I can add that when I was told that Allie had a heart murmur when she was a puppy at my breeders. I had picked her out after much ado and had visited her twice. I STILL wanted her because she was my baby after two visits and lots of pictures. She is now almost 2 and in excellent health but even if she wasn't there is NO way I would send her back for an exchange. Dumbfounded.
Ditto.
Seems unlikely that if 3 dogs all got seriously ill under her care, that it's the breeder's fault...
That is what I was thinking too.......

She wants a perpetual puppy.  Munchhausen by Proxy

When the puppy is no longer cute and entertaining or when she wants sympathy, attention, or feels like getting on TV with a law suit, she makes the dog sick to get another.   Did anyone suspect she did this on purpose?  No one can be this selfish unless they are mentally ill.  Right?

Love it Joanne.

Or there are many liver toxic substances readily available. Karen would have input here I bet.

I think you are correct! Either mentally ill or very, very spoiled !
Munchhausen by Proxy that is what I was going to say too.

I saw it but got a phone call just before the Judge's decision.  I thought the woman was a little screwy.  I can't imagine returning a dog after that amount of time.  Joanne Spud & Starlit's explanation sounds like the most reasonable explanation.

She doesn't deserve ANY dog!!!

Okay, I cannot believe anyone could EXCHANGE their dog. WTH!

Why can't all dogs have DoodleKisses owners, this makes me SICK!
