• 81 percent of Americans consider their dogs to be equal members of the family
• 77 percent own up to talking about their pups as if they are a human family member
• On average, dog owners have about seven photos of their dogs displayed in their homes or offices
• Nearly a quarter of pet parents (23 percent) have a photo album dedicated to just pictures of their canines
• 16 percent have started scrapbooks for their dogs
• 71 percent admit that they have at least one picture on them at all times that they show off to others
• 58 percent of American dog owners are comfortable calling themselves nicknames such as “Mommy” and “Daddy” when referencing their dogs (no surprise in Dogster Land!)
• 35 percent refer to their dog as their “son” or “daughter”

“Dogs are integral members of the family unit, and we want to shed light on this subtle, but important change from ‘owner’ to ‘parent.’ This survey showcases how pet parents today really treat their dogs like their own children,” says Rob Leibowitz, Del Monte Foods Senior Vice President, Pet Products.

Guilty, guilty, guilty and loving every moment of it!    I should note that I truly believe my adult human kids harbor feelings of jealousy.  ; -)
GUILTY to all of the above and then some.... can't help it I love my daughter and son :)
Shelby is my BFF and it is all of the above is true!  GrrDoodle!
Cocoa is the daughter I never had!  Finally someone I can buy pink for!  My sons call her their sister... and she is our pampered child- they fight with each other at times- but NEVER with Cocoa!  They are very protective of their sister :)
Okay, so I don't have an official scrapbook (in the truest sense of the word), but I did create an iMovie of Sedona's first year with us, complete with carefully selected music.  I burned it onto a DVD and presented it to Sedona's "daddy" on Father's Day last year.

EQUAL??? I think NOT!

DH and I are but mere servants to the Royal couple Princess Bella and Prince Murphy. They both take the best seats in the house when watching TV, as we sit on the floor or huddled on the ottoman, they are served homecooked meals far better than we cook for ourselves, they take as much of the bed as they want while we hover in a corner, not daring to move as to not disturb the royal highnesses.

I only considered thier comfort when purchasing a new SUV, I shop in specialty stores for their treats, toys, collars and kibble while we go without or go to Wal-mart to shop.  I now have 326 pictures of them on my iphone and none of DH,DD,DS! (Some of DGS ofcourse)  We would rather stay home than go somewhere that would mean leaving them home alone too long, lest they get lonely or bored! And the list goes on and on.....EQUAL? Heck, we didn't do all this with our kids, so they are all watching this feeling very slighted!! No equality in this house, they ALLOW us to live with them and take care of them, pure and simple.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing about Sedona's pecking order in our house.  Each evening she just has to stare at my husband and he hops up, usually saying something like,"Yes, m'lady - what might I do for you?"
that's so hilarious. I was thinking the exact same thing about SophieBear. She takes the most priority. Then Penelope (sorry kitty), and then moi. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a family of human children too. I'd never get anything for myself. :)
Guily Your Honor. Even my human son comes over to see his "little Brother"

I think most of us on DK agree and fit into this category.

I should add that I think Laurie should become a comedian.

She's our very own Dk Comedian!!
I should add Dh was asked one day if he had Grandchildren, he said yep and pulled out his wallet and showed them a picture of, It was Rusty at that time. You should have seen the looks on their faces at first then they smiled.
