Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We live nearly at the top of a mountain. Our acre is surrounded by trees, lots of trees and poison and briars, and wild grape vines, a little bit of grass in the middle of the back yard. I Love it. I have flower beds, a garden bed, and not a fussy yard to keep up. I wanted to be able to let Monty run, let him simply go out the door for potty, let him have space to roam or run instead of always being tied or leashed up. What is the sense of owning all this space and my dog must be tied.
So we started......We bought 4 foot high vinyl fencing and the pound in posts. We have been running it thru the forest. Some sections were easy, most were not. We had to tame back the jungle, especially poison and briars. Not to mention on this mountain of rock, that's usually what you hit when placing a post....rock. Well we did it. whew. Yep, despite our best efforts to not get poison, we got hit. I'm talking about stands of poison oak that surround trees that are 80 tall. Agent Orange is only as good as where you can get it to reach. I have nuked poison stands as many as four times and still.......it comes back.
Anyway, We have placed several hundred feet of fencing in the woods, We took the baby gate off the deck stairs. Nearly a week later, we are still having to show Monty that he can leave the deck anytime he wants! He stands at the stairs as tho the gate is still there! Silly Dood.
However the couple of times he has realized he is free, the zoomies are there! I will try to get a good photo soon.
P.S. I'm sure if that darn bear wants to visit again, he s going to laugh at our fence. So we will always be having to check the perimeter. sigh.

This is so exciting good for you and good for Monty. We live in a Ranch Condo but back to the wetlands, we go out with Daisy to play Chuck it. My daughter has an acre fenced in, her dogs want to be outside all of the time, it's wonderful. Thank Goodness, we do not have bears!
Zoomies in your big back yard, nothing could be better, can't wait for pictures.
Lisa,
You have a few bears here and there. :)
What a big undertaking, thoughts of you 'taming'the jungle come vividly to mind as you describe it, great job and I can't wait to see Monty having huge fun in his new found freedom space.
