How did you choose your dog? Or was it the dog who chose you? Are you happy with your choice?

I wonder how you guys chose your doodle? Did you have a chance to see and choose from several puppies or dogs observing them when playing and interacting with them? What were the signs that indicated you that that one was yours? Or did you just choose one by picture and couldn't see any personality in him yet? Did the breeder guide you? Are you happy with your choice?

What is your opinion about PAT or Volhard test and other similar tests?

Choosing a puppy is as difficult as choosing a wife, isn't it? Or do I complicate things too much?

I like your story. You did perform a test (a short version of it). We chose the one who struggled a bit and then became calm. And I like the name "Summer".

I had been reading about Goldendoodles for several years. When our first Golden Retriever died I had been looking on a website and saw a particular breeder I was interested in pursuing. I contacted them and they had one male and one female from a litter left to choose from. We met the poodle dam and fell in love with her. She had a remarkably similar disposition to our recently passed Golden. When we talked to the breeder about the puppy, he sounded mellow and sweet. He was gorgeous. Even though he wasn't quite 8 weeks she let us take him home since it was a long drive. He has been the joy in our home for four years.

Last fall our second Golden died. I had contacted our breeder because he had been show signs of aging for some time. There was a litter that was going to be ready in the fall. We didn't think we would lose Earle that soon. When he died no one was ready for another puppy. By the time we were ready, there were only two puppies left. We met both of them and one was completely disinterested in us. Owen was cuddly and sweet. We chose him and he has been the antithesis of Kona. We are having fun though!

Sorry about your losses. Congrats with Owen! They are black and white, right? It was supposed to be an antithesis. :)
If only it were the coloring I was talking about... hahaha. You are cute! Let's just say my DH is constantly saying, "Kona, YOU are the good dog", because I told everyone they cannot call Owen "Devil Dog" anymore!
Hahaha. Yes. I got it. I tried to make a joke.
I knew you were teasing me.
Bexter is doing MUCH BETTER!  Running around with the kids right now as I type in fact.  I can see now that I TOTALLY overreacted.  Better safe than sorry!
For me it was definitely love at first sight when we saw Molly.  We saw her photo online and did not get to see her in person until we picked her up in February.  Right before we got her, the breeder let us know that her tail curved over her back and that she had a under bite and that we could pick another puppy if we wanted, but by then that was out of the question.  Somehow we knew she was the pup for us and time has proven us right.  We adore our doodle and like Jennifer & Jack said..".I think that we take what we get and love them for who they are and train them out of any bad habits."
Molly is beautiful. She looks like a plush toy.
Thanks, and she is really snuggley just like a teddy bear I used to have when I was a kid.
Wellll... my story is a bit different....- in a way.  She didn't "choose us" we actually didn't "choose her" either...I've told this story so many times before - so forgive the long story to those who have read it... my oldest son stumbled upon dogbreeder.com.  Here, he answered a survey about what we "wanted" in a dog... One of my sons wanted huge, one wanted small, I really wanted a larger dog as well as my DH, but I really was the one into the NO shedding factor.  (We had a GR for 11 years who constantly shedded - TUMBLEWEEDS... my son came across an aussiedoodle that happened to best suit our "wants".  NEVER do we EVER buy anything sight unseen, but we did THIS time... WHY we did - was beyond me... perhaps because we SO wanted an aussiedoodle, and the only breeder we could find at the time was in Canada (we're on Long Island)... so obviously a trip for the 4 of us to go 'visit' the breeder was not happening.... we chatted on the phone, and I explained what we wanted and had to send her a picture of one of the dogs on her website to 'show' her what we would like our dog to look like... (they were mennonites and didn't even own a computer or camera for that matter - so communicating to her which dog we were referring to was difficult.  They had a friend do their website and they really never 'saw' it).  We got a phone call when the puppies were born, and I got nervous that our puppy would not 'match' what I originally saw and I changed my mind about the coloring of 'our dog' in the short time that I spoke to her on the phone.  We had to wait for someone to come visit their farm with a camera to take a picture...when we got the picture of Tori, I hate to say it, but I was a bit disappointed.  My DH wanted to throw me out with the computer.  (LOL) We picked her up from the airport.  she was cute... I liked her, but never really felt the 'connection'... it took MONTHS before I felt like she was a member of our family and there were MANY times that I questioned if she was the dog for us.  But NOW.... She is like one of my own children - Only a girl with FOUR legs instead of two, and with MUCH more hair. lol   I couldn't LOVE her more....(and she loves ME best - lol)... and the rest, as 'they' say... is history!

> My DH wanted to throw me out with the computer

I liked that part. Haha. Great story! Thanks for writing it again.
