When Can Puppy Have Carrots as Snacks?

I have read a lot about many DKers giving their dogs raw carrots as snacks.  When is it safe to give a puppy a carrot for a snack?  I think Bexter would enjoy something different.  He is 3 months old now. 

Also - Should it be a baby carrot or a regular peeled one?  Thanks!

We used the baby carrots and put them in the freezer so they would soothe their gums and be a cool treat in the summer... on liked it the other didn't.  I think Bexter would be old enough now for it.  Good luck.

There's nothing wrong with giving slices of whole peeled carrots, either. It's just more work, and they may not go over as well because they usually aren't as sweet.

Pippin is 6 months and loves baby carrots.  I just didn't think to give any to him before now.  Just watch Bexter the first couple of times and see how he manages with them.

UPDATE - We tried the carrot last night.  He liked it & chewed on it for quite a while.  He was hilarious at first - he played with it like, "What am I supposed to do with this thing?"  Then carried it around for a while before even chewing it.  It was cute!

Note:  my dogs refuse to eat carrots with the peel on them.  I was in a hurry and rinsed one off, bit off the end and gave it to Peri and TAquito.  They spit them out.

I tried giving Luna half a raw peeled carrot a few minutes ago to play with/munch on... She is currently whining/pawing at it and tossing it around the room.  She's also taking VERY small nibbles from the end of the carrot with her front teeth.

 

I don't know if her gentle GR mouth is "too" gentle, but any really hard foods, she feels as if she can't crunch them... but then destroys hard plastic bottles with ease!

 

She did have a few smaller pieces of carrot yesterday that she enjoyed - maybe she's just confused because it's a big carrot "log".

I have tried to give Nash baby carrots cut into small pieces and he likes them but he doesn't go crazy over them.  But give him cuccumber and apples and he is your best friend.
