Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, Our pup is now 17 weeks and as always I like to read up on how to train him.  I just now realized that an Australian Labradoodle is a mixture of so many different breeds of dogs.  What is up with that?  It just surprised me.  It just surprised me, that's all.  Being a double doodle, he is part Golden, Poodle and Australian Labradoodle that has cocker spaniel, etc. infused in it.  Is that correct?  I got our pup from a reputable breeder so I'm not questioning her for sure.  Just wondering why the infusion of other dogs in the Australian labradoodle.  thanks for the insight.

From what I've learned Rutland Manor and Tegan Park in Australia were actually trying to create a new breed of dog and The Australian Labradoodles were created using at least 10 different breeds besides Lab and Poodle. Among them are: English and American Cocker Spaniel and/or Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix), Irish Water Spaniel, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Curly Coated Retriever and Afghan Hound. There is very little Lab in the mix these days.

You should ask your breeder for more information regarding her lines and infusions.
